Any way to escort an 8 yr old lab from Nashville to Denver?

Hello! I apologize if this is not allowed to be posted/asked - my husband and I are moving from Nashville to Denver in early/mid September and were hoping to find a way to fly our 8 year old black Labrador retriever, Finnegan, from Nashville to Denver. We saw a post on another group that mentioned reaching out to local general aviation forums to see if there's any way to pay someone who is already making a trip from Nashville to Denver to transport our big (little) guy. Because of COVID, we can't place him in cargo on any of the commercial airlines, and we're weary of having him transported via a commercial driving service. We would drive him ourselves, but I'm about to have a newborn baby in addition to my 2 year old and so, it complicates a long drive. If you have any advice, please let me know.

Try Pilots’n’Paws, a volunteer (501c3) pet transportation organization that does not charge fees for the service.  Pilots fly the critters entirely at their own expense. ( www.Pilotsnpaws.org ) Be sure to include specific airports at both ends, weight, dates of travel, any equipment that will be included, what arrangements will be made for receiving Finnegan at Denver, contact phone numbers, etc. Practical information is especially appreciated. Be aware of what pilots of little airplanes will need… a clean and de-flea’d dog who hasn’t had breakfast, for starters, and a positive way to turn the pup over to a responsible person at the destination FBO without delay. (If you drop the dog off at a Memphis FBO, your pilot and dog will certainly beat you to Denver by many hours, perhaps a day or two, right?) Tranquilizers aren’t generally needed. Dogs make great passengers, usually snooze the whole way. I ask that uncrated dogs wear a sturdy harness through which a seatbelt can be secured, with just enough slack to permit the furry passenger to peek out the window, but not enough to be tossed around in turbulence.

good luck!

Agree with @Amelia.  I fly for this organization up in the Northeast, and it's probably the best way (aside from having a friend who owns an airplane to fly Finnegan as a favor) to get him to Denver.  I've attached their contact info below.  Feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

What has Covid to do with a dog flying on an airliner? Do dogs spread Covid?

Just questioning as I don’t understand the logic

Definite “maybe. “ Probably not something I would spend much time worrying about. I did ask my vet about getting my dog tested for COVID when he came back from the dog boarding with kennel cough and she politely declined and gave him some antibiotics.

Welcome aboard Olgita!

Looks like You have come to the right place for some Mooney flying advice….

There are many pilots around here who have moved pets around…

+1 for checking with pilots n paws to see if they have a service for this type of transport…

As for animals and Covid… the local zoo had mentioned they are treating some of their animals for Covid…

Viruses can be kind of specific to the types of animals they can inhabit…. The zoo didn’t mention anything about apes, monkeys or other primates… or raccoons…

Consider adding a date or time frame to the title.  Find the edit buttons in the original post….  They look like this….  “…” :)

Best regards,

-a-
