Garmin Autoland

Any info out there? Read it was being installed in Pipers and perhaps Cirrus??

Mooney calendar arrival? Price?

Local avionics shop said he has nothing concrete except what he has heard in the rumor mill.

I thought all was finished after Microkit install, now again??

Expect a bunch of automated controls to go with that...

Garmin just won a Collier trophy award for the system...

So... expect major surgery for adding and integrating controls, AP, and a big fancy button...

It sure would lessen the mental burden for right seaters that are not proficient...

Expect when Mooney builds their next new Ovation design... to include this system as well...

It will probably be able to keep the price under a Million for a nicely loaded traveler...   :)

It should also be able to keep an eye on fuel levels for the errant pilot as well...

PP guesses only, not an automation specialist...

Best regards,

Looks like a list of small turbine powered planes have been certified with it...  Ci, TBM, P600

More from Garmin...

We have an auto mixture source around here...  see @takair

Getting a Mooney auto throttle isn’t too far away...  :)

Getting closer...

I’ve had a prototype auto throttle on the bench using the same concept as our Auto-Lean II, for which we have started the amended STC process.  That said, I don’t know that it would sell as a standalone system, so will likely need to wait until Garmin gets to it for Mooney.

And I remember reading somewhere that the number of zeros needed to be added to AMU to purchase would cause any Cheap Bast$&d to shrivel up like a raisin.

Buy a new turbine, get AutoLand free...

That would make a new category... BAMUs.  B=Big....

Some of the planes listed are of the 3-4 BAMU variety...

For now, the GFC500/700 AP with some basic instructions laminated instructions (step by step button presses and 121.5 comm) is a nice middle ground.  The AP will fly the approach all the way to ground, they just need to yank the power back to idle prior to touchdown.  Plane may have some damage but passengers will probably be OK.  Perfect?  Far from it, but if you are concerned about passing out it's not much effort to make these instructions.

BAMU's supersonic bizjet was canceled . . . .

Temporary set back for the BAMU class.

However then there is RAMU - rocket American Units.  Just ask Jeff Bezos who is going up in his companies rocket in July...with his brother.  When you got 200B then even BAMU is for the little people.  Heck I would go for a ride if I owned a rocket company.

Heck, I would sell rides if I owned a rocket company. That's how a man moves into BAMU territory.
