David Lloyd
Most of the older mods were done to my plane. Out of the big list, the only that I would do today would be the 201 style windshield, nose fairing and maybe the oil cooler relocation. And the LED landing light. Probably the Powerflow exhaust. Other things done to mine that would not be done today are: wing tips, nav and stormscope antennas hidden under fiberglass belly panel, brake rotation, flap and aileron gap seals, wing root fairing, rudder elevator and flap hinge fairings, dorsal fin, overlapping gear doors, 2nd LED landing light, 3 blade prop, battery relocation to radio bay, articulating front seats, fuel bladders. And the rounded window corners. And the wide open cowl flaps. This model year had no cowl flaps or dorsal. Step was removed. Everything comes at a price. Obviously, a bunch of money was spent but almost everything added weight. All the fairings added about 15 lbs. The bladders weigh about 30 lbs. The prop and spinner added about 15 pound (battery had to be moved to offset that weight). Stormscope about 14 lbs. KCS 55 HSI system about 14 lbs. Stec 60-2 autopilot about 18 lbs. Articulating seats about 10 lbs. Useful load is 804 including 8 quarts of oil. I need to loose another 20 pounds to take the wife, both dogs and fill the tanks. The step was probably the only thing that didn't add weight. It does fly a hair faster the the '65 C I had early 80s. If they left together for a 500 mile lunch run someone could order, the other would show up in time for food.
Pstone
Hi David, I really like the side windows. How did you do that? Did you need a 337 etc.? Thanks, Pat
David Lloyd
Previous owner. Done at the same time as other mods. Just a little piece of painted metal at the corner of the window. It may be held to the plexi with adhesive. Haven't looked real close.
hammdo
Previous owners did virtually all speed mods on mine. Don’t have a favorite but the cowling and 201 windshield stand out to me: UL is 973 lbs as of right now... -Don
Hank
This one is worth doing, your engine will like it: So is this one: I enjoy this one every time I put the canopy cover on or take it off: The antennae are all behind the cover, none go through it. Up front are nothing but GPS pucks.
wcb
Here are my two mods I did in order on my 1963 C (pictures of the C are in my profile) Mod #1 - 1976 F model with turbo normalizer Mod #2 I Just did a couple months ago 1994 Ovation with 310 HP STC I couldn't resist. Your post was: Created this post to have everyone share their M20C mods, and pictures. Show them off and let me know which ones you would do again and which ones you wouldn't. Just though I would let you know they both worked very well and highly recommend them. If you can skip mod one and go straight to mod two even better. TX-Champ
N9500V has these mods: 201 Windshield 201 cowling, induction system and oil cooler relocation 201 wingtips Flap, Aileron, wingroot and dorsal fairings 201 NACA dorsal fin air intake Inner gear doors All those are nice and were done by prior owners. But probably the best mod was the panel work to make it a much easier use and more modern airplane. If I was starting over again I'd probably do the panel and interior first. (Interior by Aero Comfort, San Antonio). (we removed 65 lb or old radios - KX170b's, DME, Loran, ADF, etc...)
