MS'er Joe B. Is here with me at KHAE and , when the weather cooperates,, is going to ferry N9150V to the west coast for the new owners. On the ramp we noticed this Cessna with what is apparently  a strange new vortex generator configuration that works so well that the plane wants to start flying even in 0 wind !

Damn--that's rough.  Hope they're not flying today.

Brand Ce’s new smart VGs... for their tail dragger... the icy triangles all point toward the ground, sort of...

Wait for the accompanying video...

A touch of warmth... the weight slides off the horizontal stabilizer, the nose crashes to the ground...

Probably shakes the remaining icicles off as well...

:)

Yeah, hopefully when the pilot returns  he does a very thorough preflight....might be two newly installed trim tabs on the elevators. I called our local MX, they said they would reach out to the owner.

Either -

1. The VGs were installed upside down.

2. Its water ice and therefore the phenomenon is called icicles.

3. They are made of stone due to a particularly long period of disuse in a moist cave, in which case the phenomenon is called stalactites.

Yesterday was really cold here in Queen Creek Arizona.
had an almost 45 minute frost delay at the golf course. 35 degrees, fortunately it got above 70 later.

Happens a lot with Cessna's actually. Whenever it snows a lot or ices.

They just want to be taildraggers for a day!

Yeah, The tie down rings are in front of the wheels so probably would help to make sure the wings are more taunt if you expect this kind of stuff and particularly if it going to be gusty...

Yeah, my point was that the inboard edge of the elevators hit the ground and that might create a new set of "unofficial" trim tabs, but they looked ok when it was back on its nose due to melting ice.
