I was unable to locate a 337 so I went back to my IA and he informed me that I do not need it. He made the logbook entry only. I have been reluctant to say anything else about it at this point. But since he made the log book entry and reassured me that it was perfectly legal (since it was the same as the skybeacon) I figured I am safe.

Apparently you're not alone.    A bunch of the reviews on aircraftspruce say that theirs was installed as a minor alteration with a logbook entry, so your IA is not an outlier and has probably done his homework.   Regardless, he's The Man for your airplane, so you're golden.

I'm not sure what would have qualified it as a major alteration, anyway.
