FastTex
Good Morning! There are two vents (one on each side, pilot and co-pilot) that pump warm air on our legs. It seems like a small pipe with a shutdown knob attached but the mechanism does not appear to completely close the air. While this is sometime nice in the winter, I would like to find a better way to fix/close the air. I wrapped some aluminum tape with a metal zip-tie on my side. Has anyone found a new gasket or a part to fix it? Thanks!
Guest
If there is air flow with the heater closed, either the control is mis rigged, or the gasket in the firewall shut off is missing or broken. Clarence
Hank
Yes, the Cabin Heat knob should shut this off. Turning that valve redirects the airflow to the windshield, aka "defroster."
FastTex
Yes, cabin hot air is off. So these vents are controlled by that too. I did not know that. I guess the firewall box needs to be opened and fixed? I see where it is...I need to find the parts/gasket, if that's the problem.
carusoam
FT... The heater system has a mixing box... Cold air coming in from outside... Hot air from the heat muff... Both sources have valves... Old systems use slide valves that stop working every six months or so... clean and lube frees them up... New systems use a butterfly valve that has a rubber seal... Sounds like your rubber seal went on hiatus... There are a few threads around here regarding replacing this seal... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... FastTex
Thanks for the info. I have been doing some research and I could not locate part numbers. Does anyone have more detailed info? I will try to call LASAR next week.
carusoam
Got time? This search might get you close... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?&q=Heat seal valve&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy Dan at Lasar can probably get the right pieces for you... If it is just the piece of rubber needing to be refreshed, your local mechanic can probably take care of that... Getting the right modern material for the seal... @GEE-BEE often can make user produced parts based on what you have left... die cut to perfection... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...
