Anti Smart Watch Guy. Share wrist Porn

Recommended Posts

I prefer traditional wrist watches to Smart Watches”. Anyone else wear old school time pieces instead of computers on their wrist? Wrist watches are works of art. I feel naked without them. I do have a Garmin Approach for gps yardage on golf course, but that is as techy as I get on wrist calculators.  :)

There's my titanium eco-drive (solar powered electric never wind never change battery) daily beater - Ti body and Ti band for lightweight durable.  Always runs.  Water proof (vs resistant) and just takes a licken' and keeps on tickin' (better than timex even) - and it does one thing and does it well.  It tells time.

And there's my special occasions watch, or I am just in that mood.  My Seiko-Mickey with a rubber band.

"It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" reminds me of this: https://youtu.be/_NHq3Yze6s0 when live TV was really live.  Kudos to John Cameron Swaze for keeping his cool!

Yeah!  That's it!

I love when he says, "Timex is scientifically sealed."

I think I will go out to the hangar and put my mickey seiko on the prop of my airplane and fly around for a while and see if it still works.

Those ads were just the best.  I love those 50's tv voices too.

When I was a teenager whenever we saw anything absurd it was a basis for a Timex commercial:

We strapped John Cameron Swayze to the rotor of this Huey helicopter and flew twice around the pattern!   John's taken a beating, but you can see the sweep second hand of his Timex is still working perfectly!

Edit:  Jeebuz, I even remembered that wrong.   We always ended with, "John's taken a licking, but his Timex is still ticking!"

My watches, Timex for daily wear (I still love the Indiglo) and the Citizen for work.

My father bought the Citizen but really had no idea what the numbers meant (the E-6B).  At the time, I was a private pilot but starting to work on Commercial, etc.  When he finally learned what the dials were for and that it was actually a pilot watch, I was working for my second airline.  That's when he bought another Citizen watch and gave me this one.

I'm an anti-wrist watch guy.  I have a nice collection pocket watches, all antique.

That’s actually very cool.  I would love to see some of your collection.  I just have one.  Was my Great Grandfathers (dad’s side) and he received as a retirement gift.  Works great, but I don’t carry it.

Those U-Boat watches are very cool Paul.  I have never seen those before.  What is story on those?

I have very wide wrists and so prefer watches with larger faces. I was in a second hand watch store just looking and asked what they had with a larger face. The guy brought out a U-boat watch. They are huge and I just really liked them. They don't do very well on the second hand market, so they can often be found pretty reasonably priced. Mine are both automatic movements.

The only watch I've ever had since new, is the Rolex GMT 2. But it was an incentive gift from my employer. All the others have been either purchased second hand or traded. I usually swap out a watch once a year or so. There have been Breitling's, IWC's, Omega's, and Bell&Ross's in the collection previously and might be again.

I like that IWC! I've had an IWC Portuguese Chronograph and I should have never sold it.

Don’t I get credit for the vintage high-end custom hook and pile tape watch band? Lol

Let me think on that....No ;)

My CB brethren will love this. Just picked this baby up to wear at work:

Couple grand cheaper than my Omega beater.

Hey, just like Judge in Caddyshack as stated by Rodney D....Awww, never mind.  So what did that baby set you back?  I am thinking you could buy a bulk pack of X number and resell on Ebay.  Engineers and mathematicians will flock to the nostalgia of that most wonderful decade: 1970’s....

Do you still roll with the red velour seats that Ricardo Montebahn made famous in his Corranado....”Look what they have done to my car?” As proudly worn by circa 1977 Mooney drivers.  Sweet.  :)

Up until recently I always wore cheapie Casio or Timex watches because they're accurate and cheap enough that when I beat the crap out of them working on something because I forgot to take it off it doesn't really matter.    I tried a relatively inexpensive smart watch about a year ago to track my heart rate, and it turned out I actually like it quite a bit.   I only recently upgraded to a slightly smarter smart watch, for a whopping $50, and so far am liking that as well.

I have a Citizen WR200 aviator's watch, a fairly new style, and the face is way to busy to be usable for me.   Maybe it'll be a special occasion watch, but I don't find it functional at all beyond giving basic time-of-day.

A small army of other watches has accumulated here over many decades, a couple nice ones that were service awards or something, but because I tend to ruin watch faces by working on things without paying attention to the watch, I've rarely or never worn them.  :(
