long body baggage size vs. Sr 22

Recommended Posts

I found this Angel Flight message interesting.   I would have thought a SR22 held more baggage than my Mooney.

"We have 8 large boxes of level 3 face masks, 8 large boxes of level 2 face shields, and 3 large boxes of isolation gowns that need to go from XXXXXX to XXXXXX Please let me know if you can help!

*To give you an idea of sizing, we could fit 3 in an SR22, and 4 in a long body mooney"

I wish I had taken a picture of how I loaded my Ovation a couple of years ago during an Operation Air Drop mission after hurricane Michael.  The baggage compartment, backseat and passenger seat were fully loaded with 300+ lbs of goods.  While I had rigorously calculated the W/B to be correct, I hadn't factored on just the physical obstruction of so much material.  With goods in the passenger seat, I would have had a dickens of a time with an emergency egress.  I would pay more attention to that next time...it was pretty funny when I landed and the outside line person had to help open the door and off-load my goods.

Sounds like my flights with them out of RDU. Arriving with half tanks, I was the only single that listed Payload over 400 lb (970 - 180 fuel -200 me = 520 lb available). Despite my best efforts, it wouldn't fit; I did make two trips around 350-400 lb each, and I learned to put something heavy up front, as my first flight was somewhat squirrelly in initial climb.

I also left my sunglasses in my truck, taking off just before sunrise . . . .

I’d sacrifice a few pounds on some shoulder belts.

Almost I listed 500.

Different hurricane relief flights, different states. You did Michael in the Fla. panhandle, I did Florence in NC.

But apparently Operation Airdrop has moved to Facebook where I have never participated. Despite living a single Mooney hour from Gulf Shores, I heard nothing in the aftermath of Sally last week . . . . Didn't know where they were staging from or delivering to.

But it's time and fuel well spent!
