KFC 150 Trim Switch

Often trim switches are a pair of switches to allow for error checking...

If one of the switches stops operating, the manual trim will become inop...

My KAP150 will continue to operate holding altitude, it never knows if I have used the trim switch or not...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Best regards,

Are you sure it is the switch?  My electric trim stopped working and it was a broken wire at the end of the yoke shaft.

BINGO !!! thank for the advice. Saved me about a grand!!!!!

Cheers Rick

My autopilot kcf-150 is starting to fail the ap test especially when it’s colder outside. Then after awhile i can get the test to pass. I noticed my yoke trim switch doesn’t return very well and I probably have a weak return spring. Where can I get a new spring or switch? Central Texas aviation used to repair these trim switches but no longer does due to liability concerns over parts not being TSO.
I guess their hanger fairy got nabbed. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the info and tip. Will call them after thanksgiving. I tried spraying electric contact cleaner on the switch and that helped alot but really need to just replace the switch before the spring completely gives out. Tried spraying the selector switch on my audio panel to see if it would help with the transmission static i get on the garmin 530w and that was a mistake as now my radio altimeter is flickering at 100-300 feet and not working correctly and i noticed my stall horn is not sounding very loudly through my headset or speakers now. It sounds muted almost like the switch on the wing is not making good contact. And today the gps monetarily lost signal 4 times in a 3 hour flight. Might be coincidence or not.

Any more info on this? My trim switch is giving me some problems on my KAP-150. About a month ago would pitch up fine, down only if you pushed the buttons hard. Took it apart, sprayed some contact cleaner in it and I thought it was resolved. Today it was giving me trouble again. Autopilot worked fine, passed test and held altitude no problem. I looked around the forums for the micro switch thread, but couldn’t find anything.

Hey Matt,

im using my small screen tonight…

makes things more challenging to find…

try searching for… Trim micro switch

then include searching for all three words…

if you let google do the search, include BK with the other three… and MooneySpace.

It narrows things down a bit.

There is an electronics supplier that is commonly used around here…

unfortunately, I don’t recall the name…

hope that gets you closer…

Just called Precision Avionics Specialists in Griffin, GA. Was going to send them my old switch to repair but waited until i downed my mooney for a throttle body overhaul that will take 6 weeks to complete and figured I’d use that down time to IRAN the switch to save some money. Come to find out Jackie at PSA said a new switch cost like $300 but to repair mine would be about $250. So for and extra $50 i get a new switch and maybe we will just solder it on the end of the wires as there is only a big cannon plug at the end of the control tube that makes disconnecting the wires through the yoke a PITA. How does anybody get their yokes wrapped in leather? Do they just cut all the wires? Or can they wrap the yokes in place if you bring them the airplane?  When mooney assembled the switches on the yoke they really didn’t make it very serviceable later.

Just to follow up i wound up sending my switch in as jackie found out they were out of stock on a new one. Said mine wasn’t so much the springs but the case that holds the pin had worn to the point that it didn’t keep the pin in alignment with the spring and switch.  Fixed it all up and put on about a ft of connecting wire from the switch which alliw us to fish the wires down the handle and solder them to the wires coming out of the yoke tube. Works great and improved my ap tests since the switch now springs back to neutral everytime.
