FAA Over Reach?

Not to sound like Dave Barry, but the thing with contagious diseases like COVID-19 is that they are, well, contagious...just like a WHOLE LOT of other diseases that KILL people.  For poignant example: the FLU!!  Kills tens of thousands every year an no one bats an eye.  Did it ever occur to you mask lovers that our fine government may well decide to impose mandatory mask wearing FOREVER!  After all, it WILL reduce the spread of all kinds of diseases.  You okay with that?  I mean if even ONE life is saved it's worth it to destroy our economy, right?

Frankly, I think the "data" were are being force fed is pretty damn suspect (lies, damn lies, and statistics).  I'm getting pretty tired of hearing how swell all those euro-socialist countries are doing; like it's supposed to be some kind of shame on the US.  Ever think maybe they don't test as much?  That their population distributions are different?  How about that they don't code every death that has a couple of common symptoms with COVID as a COVID death?  Like there aren't  more that just a few other illnesses that have the same symptoms!  Ever think maybe the US/CDC is, for political purposes, coding every damn death they possibly can as COVID to make the numbers look as horrific as possible. Nah, the Kool-Aid is just tasting too good, huh? Then there's Sweden.  They said screw the lockdown.  Seems they may have more elder deaths but hardly the 'sky-is-falling' mantra we hear out or our politicians.  But, speaking of elder deaths...we had Cuomo sending the COVID sick BACK to rest homes!  Knocked off some state funded health care costs right there, he did:(

I wear a mask in businesses that require one (they are a PRIVATE enterprise, after all) and am forced to wear one at work unless I'm drinking or eating (hint, I've ALWAYS got a cup of coffee right next to me!). And, it doesn't bother me ONE bit if others don't have their masks on; no hypocrisy here.

Look, life is 100% fatal.  I stay away from obviously sick people, and wash my hands frequently....but I've been doing that for a long time, anyway.

I’m just tired of the politicos and medical folks lecturing/pleading/chastising all the while I can still go buy a pack of smokes, a 12 pack of beer, and a triple bacon cheeseburger with extra greasy fries.  They don’t care about saving lives, not really.  If they did, we’d be actually banning things that save orders of magnitudes more lives, rather than condemning people going to Sunday church service.

Given how much resistance there is to people wearing masks during a pandemic you think the government should waste time trying to get people to stop drinking and eat right when things are good?   They did manage to finally curb smoking quite a bit, which is also a good thing.

FWIW, the gov does do this in its more subtle social engineering ways, which I think is a good thing, but the incentives that work elsewhere are difficult to apply to mask wearing.

No, I don't think they should ban anything.  Or worry about how people eat. Or require seatbelts.  Or any plethora of other things.

I think people should be responsible for their own choices.  I think that should apply equally across all aspects.

8 million Americans died of smoking last year.  If the government is really interested in saving lives, why haven't they flat out banned tobacco?

Because banning tobacco wouldn't ruin our once robust economy or further their twisted political agenda!

Because the federal government is still subsidizing tobacco farmers . . . .

It was tried many times.   Like everything, there were multiple sides.

Hey...

Sorry I’m late did I miss anything..?

:)

Roughly speaking for Early August....

1) There are a few Vaccines that have reached some wide scale commercial trials... Aka Phase III In FDA speak... Yay!

2) The vaccine developers have Partnered with Large corporations that have a history of producing vaccines on a large scale... Yay!

Some brand names like Moderna, JNJ, Astra Zeneca, and a couple of others...

3) Of those industrial pharma behemoths... a couple are saying a vaccine may be available before the year is over...  Wahoo!

4) One of the things that gets in the way of drug development... some diseases take years to develop... some change very slowly.... How they work takes years to understand...

5) This virus is Novel in name only... by definition, it was new at the end of last year... by the middle of this year... everyone new exactly what is was, how it works, how easily it is transmitted, and why a cytokine storm doesn’t happen for everybody...  it can be caught in a day... and develop into a disease in 10 days or less... it is gone with in a couple weeks after that... or kills you.  Boo!

6) the coolest thing we have learned...  how to slow its transmission, and how to avoid it altogether if needed...  Yay!

7) Interestingly, there are some politicians working closely in the healthcare industry... they get affected just as easily as other people...

8) Speaking of high level politician... Herman Cain is no longer with us because of Covid... He ran for president last time around... a CEO of a major US company with an extensive corporate history... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Cain  A really smart guy, excellent businessman, intelligent business leader...

9) So this disease doesn’t care about how smart, how much money, how old you are, or aren’t... it is an equal opportunity destroyer...  Boo!

10) Worse if you are old...

11) Yes we are all going to die from something... said the tech I worked with... while smoking... I didn’t want to miss him when he was gone... but I did...  he left this world way too soon... so many ways to die... dying early sucks more than dying later...

12) Big deal... masks, gloves, distance, and hand washing... Yay!

13) Just like seat belts, ABS brakes, radial tires, sticky compounds, vision systems, guard rails, 3M reflective paint, and that whole Elon Musk thing.... Yay!

14) Where are you on table saws? Do you use a piece of wood to push something past the blade or do you still use your freedom to push it through with your own fingers? Safety glasses, gloves, safety cages, stop bars and wires...

15) Political interest for Covid is fading quickly... so many other issues need to be touted between now and November... time is getting short...

16) tests are available at the local drive through... go today, get your results in a few hours... Yay!

17) don’t like the test results... go back again... Yay again!

18) Some small business have learned quickly to adapt... Lots of outdoor dining around here... every restaurant has a parking lot plan...

19) Some small Canadian company has made it possible for even small business to appear much larger with web presence... that small company has doubled in size and is now one of the largest publicly held companies in Canada... find Shopify to learn how to get your personal company on line... Even I know what my local Italian restaurant is serving today via text, email, or web visit...

20) Adapt... because that’s what has worked for us since the beginning of time...

21) infighting still doesn’t get us to where we want to be... it doesn’t get us to the next level... yay!

22) Aviation relation to all of this... we learned to adapt to improve our level of safety... we added seatbelts and shoulder harnesses... we changed the cigarette ashtrays into LED light holders... We got TCs to climb over some rough weather and enjoy strong tail winds... we learned to fill our own O2 tanks because we can... We got IR’d  because we wanted our stats to read... avoided running out of gas, and avoided flying VFR into IMC...

23) Improving and increasing safety levels can be expensive and uncomfortable sometimes... But not always... yay!

24) I learned to wear a mask, gloves and safety glasses to get paid at a job I wanted to have...Like junior high school shop class...just had to do it... Yay!

25) This is a lot to take in...  the experts ARE changing messages as the facts change... we wouldn’t want it any other way...

26) Do the best you can with what you have...

27) Facts are changing... things are getting better...

PP thoughts only, some stuff I have read around here... the rest came from the internet... :)

Best regards,

-a-

Ever think maybe the US/CDC is, for political purposes, coding every damn death they possibly can as COVID to make the numbers look as horrific as possible.

Dr Brix (Fauchi's partner) said many months ago that they were taking a very "broad" course on coding COVID deaths.

In Utah the raw numbers are 274 dead by 7/26/2020 (Hopkins Tracking number)  That divided by the total population of Utah       3, 300, 000 equals a risk factor of dying from COVID in Utah at  0.008%   8 one thousands of one percent.

In Arizona where we have a large population of Navajo Indians (they have one of the highest infection and death rates) the factor is 0.04% in relation to total population, four one hundredths of one percent.   Those not of Navajo decent are much less in risk factor.

I'm not saying its can't be bad if you catch it but 70+% who do, show no or little signs of it and by relation to total population the risk is very low.  Of those dying , the vast majority have underlying health issues.

Per the CDC 1.300 people die of smoking related disease every day in the USA.

Right now COVID is doing about 870/day

I'm just showing the raw numbers. Draw your own conclusions.

Quite possibly the two doctors in Bakersfield CA back in March (who were taken down by Facebook and Utube) were right on the money.

The positive side of COVID!

The boss comes to me today and asks if I can fly my plane out to Pittsburgh PA to accept a piece of equipment we are buying. And also visit a customer in Santa Barbara CA. He says he doesn't want to put any of his people in danger by putting them on an airliner.

If flying isn't part of his normal job duties, he can be repaid all actual expenses for the flight(s), per my understanding of the relevant FARs.

I know they can be shared ‘equally’, was not sure about ‘full’ reimbursement... solo without other ‘employees’ probably can do that.

have to see that part of the regs...

thanks!

I slow clap to that...

Reminds me of Harry Potter.  Hogwarts had ‘em to.

The world is a wonderful place full of all kinds of different people.

Teacher says every time someone checks a reg a new pilot gets his wings...

That a boy Hammdo...

Part b (2) gets me - if I carry a work laptop and that is how I make my living (coding in my case), is that considered ‘property’ for compensation/hire since it’s a company laptop? Regs don’t state they are not unless - there is a list..

Wheels turning ;o)

The government actually has a reimbursement rate (mileage) for privately owned airplane, very similar to privately owned vehicle.  You don't have to have a commercial driver's license to be reimbursed mileage in your car.

GSA Announces 2019 Mileage Rates

The General Services Administration annouced the 2019 calendar year (CY) official temporary and relocation travel mileage rates per GSA FTR Bulletin 19-03.  Rates apply to travel and relocation performed on or after 1 January through December 31, 2019.

TDY Travel:

  • Privately owned car:  $0.58
  • Privately owned motorcycle: $0.55
  • Privately owned airplane: $1.26
