Moving instruments without cutting new panel

Recommended Posts

Questions for the many avionics experts on MS:
If I wanted to move a 1/2ATI display (KAS 297 Alt Selector) to a 3 1/8” instrument hole, will it fit? If it will, can you buy adapter plates to do that or do you have to have them custom cut?

Also, I know you can buy full ATI to 3 1/8 reducer plates from Spruce. I presume that if you want to go the other way you have to cut a new panel? So for example, if I wanted to move my ATI size WX950 to a 3 1/8” hole, I can’t do that, right?

Yes, a 1/2 ATI will fit in a 3 1/8" hole.  Your avionics shop (or you, if you're handy) can fabricate one.  I got one from Sandia, who makes a 1/2 ATI transponder.  They might sell you one.

I'll add this, since you're Canadian-

The KAS297 is not a 1/2ATI so the off the shelf adaptors will not work.  Send me an email on what you are trying to do, and I'll make up a plate next time I fire up my machine.  Don supercub180@gmail.com
