DEGWS Posted June 10, 2020 Report Posted June 10, 2020 Hi, Have a Fuel leak on LH Tank running into leading edge near fuselage. Only with nearly Full Fuel. Today I removed the lower inner panel and identify the leak. Two small holes in the sealer. What is the best way to fix it. I have both sealers for the Tank/panel at home and plan to start work tomorrow. Thanks! Quote
Andy95W Posted June 10, 2020 Report Posted June 10, 2020 While I agree that is probably the source of your leak, I would double check before you mix the sealant. Nothing sucks more than going to all that trouble, resealing the access panel, and then finding out there was another leak. N201MKTurbo Posted June 10, 2020 Report Posted June 10, 2020 Do you want the easy answer, or the correct answer? First, I would leak check it as @Andy95W said above. If that is in fact your leak, the easy fix is to clean the top coat off with MEK and dab some new sealant on, let it cure and re-leak check it. The correct way is to clean that corner down to bare metal, back about 2 inches in all directions and reseal according to the maintenance manual. 3 Quote

DEGWS Posted June 11, 2020 Author Report Posted June 11, 2020 Today I confirmed the location with soap and blowing some air near the area leaking into the leading edge. Leak is exactly as you see on the picture. I cleaned this area with MEK and resealed with ppg sealer. Also sealed the lower access panel with the specific sealer. How long should I wait until adding fuel again? 1 Quote
hammdo Posted June 11, 2020 Report Posted June 11, 2020 I’d give it 48 hrs to fully cure. I believe that is the ‘max’ time. Then retest to confirm no other leaks pop up after you’ve sealed that one - there could be others that show up... -Don Quote
jetdriven Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 Follow the service manual on this. Scarf back the sealant in the area. Wipe with MeK to clean. Apply adhesion promoter pr-142. Apply pr1422b for fillet. Let dry. Then wipe and apply 1422a. Then top coat with buna-n. I just Did this and I fixed it. 2 Quote

How long should I wait until adding fuel again? It should say on the documentation for the sealant you used how long it needs to cure. There are different sealants with different cure times.
