Moving right along...Do you have a time frame in mind?

Yes, several years ago!  I have no idea really, just want to keep up the momentum and get on to the wood and fabric parts.  I bought it as a basket case and am rebuilding/ replacIng just about everything.

No secrets anymore.  It did indeed come from Pleasanton.  I disassembled it and trailered it home from an estate sale.

More new pieces, I just picked up my exhaust system from the welder.  It’s all new old stock pipes that were never welded into a complete system.  He used an old core engine to fit them.

Have to build new heater jackets now.

Can you make it experimental since you're building it from scratch?

I could put it the Canadian “Owner Maintenance” category, but I want to keep it in the certified category.

no way...besides no electrical (I think)

The A65-8F engine I have for the Mite has no electrical system, I’d need a -12 to get electrics.  I’m going to go with batteries to power a Comm radio and transponder.

Some more Mite progress this week.  I got the forward floor board painted and installed.  Had to build 2 new ribs that go under the floor.  Below are a few pictures.

The first picture is the old rib and a tracing of it on new metal.

The second picture is the blank clamped between 2 blocks of MDF board the shape of the rib.  The curved flange is carefully formed over the MDF with a plastic mallet, and fluting pliers.

The third picture is the pieces before clamping.

The forth picture is the newly formed rib ant the original cracked rib.

The fifth picture is the new left and right ribs ready for installation.

Doc,

You have skills...

Ever think of making two at a time?   :)

Best regards,

-a-

In some senses it is two or three, the first rib took me three tries, the second rib was done on the first try.

The ribs from yesterday were fitted and checked in place.

Rudder pedals fitted as well.

Trial fitting the instrument panel and some instruments as well.
