Just heard M20L N78MP fly over SMO at 4500ft north bound.
She sounded absolutely amazing!! Even had a little crackle in the exhaust note to it.
Really wish that Porsche thing could have worked out better than it did.

I here airplanes all the time and this one got my attention. I couldn’t pinpoint it until I looked it up on FlightAware.

Would the registration reflect if the engine was swapped out along the way? (Liquid Rocket option)

The current registration still lists the original engine... 217HP.

I've landed behind a Liquid Rocket, but heneas shut down at the fuel pump when I got there. Nice planes! They have a special place in Mooney history.

Not sure how someone is keeping a Porsche Mooney airworthy. There was an AD on the valve springs requiring mandatory replacement after so many hours and Porsche stopped supporting it so no parts available. Maybe someone has a stockpile of them (or they are using supposedly the same valve springs that a 911 uses)

Owner supplied parts would have been a great opportunity for supporting the Porsche engine...

The Liquid Rocket has 350HP...

The Porsche engined M20L, was the first Long Body... 217HP is a bit low when loading the plane...

The L is a great way to add volume, compared to the J...

The next Long Body got the more stout legs... M20M.

I like the IO550... Missile, PFM, Eagle, Ovation.... anyway you can...  :)
