Just a pointer to this tread in " 'Vintage" . We have quite a few joiners to Mooneyspace since it last bubbled up. For the new, the idea is to get a picture with your Mooney and second favorite vehicle ;) ...ideally in the same pic. Click on this thread to view an post:

I dug out my old CFI/CFII binder that I put together in college and found this magazine from December 1993.  I took pictures of the article for those that want a stroll down memory lane.  I’ve owned the Corvette, a green ‘94.  That was almost as fun as the flying the Mooney.  Enjoy!!

Thank you for sharing this article and your information.

Reading the article and seeing the photos gives me a tingle of pride of ownership, and pride of brand..... given the current situation of Mooney, and mostly pride and admiration for the people that built them!! :)

The advances in automotive powertrain technology since the early 90’s has been nothing short of remarkable. Horsepower, efficiency, reliability, longevity, etc.  It makes me wonder what a clean slate light aircraft engine/prop design might look like today without the encumbrances of the establishment.

I remember that thread.  A lot of us at the time had BMW E39 M5's.  A disproportionate number for the only 9000 or so that were sold in the United States between 2000 and 2003.  I'm curious who still has one.  I do (just about to roll past 180,000 miles).  I think it was 5 or 6 of us that had one years ago.

Very cool article. I’ve always been a vette guy. I have a 2013 427 convertible right now. A cool car because they only made 1500 of them in the final year of the C6. Nothing like a big American V-8. I’m bummed that they are totally doing away with the manual transmission for the C8.

Can't even get a manual 911 anymore.  What is this world coming to?  Sad days all around.

Stick shifts in this country have been virtually extinct for several years. Very sad state of affairs . . . . .

Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs...there are still some options if one really wants a manual.    I drove a Cadillac CTS-V for a long time, partly because it was available with a manual.   That was an awesome car, probably my favorite daily driver ever.

I really miss mine and regret selling it. Wish my garage was larger.

If you want a manual vette that is new better grab one of the last of the 2019s still on the dealer lots. It’s the end of an era.  I know the salesman at the big Chevrolet dealership here in Atlanta who sells nothing other than Corvettes. He is known as the Corvette guy around here. Apparently automatics have been far out selling manuals for a long time.

My garage occupant needs to get kicked out to the open outdoor space currently occupied by Home Depot lawn bags in favor of a Porsche 718 Cayman.  But the Altima is my sales car that gets 38 mpg (hwy) for a cool $9000.

Also I would like to acquire an airplane to consume that oil on the left.  Hope's Subaru not pictured.

I built an attainable version of the dream car the other night on Porsche's site...718 Cayman with Jet Black Metallic exterior.  I know a lot of people don't like the turbo 4-cyl that replaced the 6-cyl of the 981.  Having driven both, I'll take either one.  The 718 is a better car IMO despite the fact it doesn't sound quite as nice as the 981.  And even I, the manual transmission purist, have been sold on the Porsche PDK.

Automatics outselling manuals has been true for a long time.

The transmission in the C8 is not automatic in the usual sense, i.e., it is not a torque converter driving a planetary gearset.   It is a traditional manual-configuration transmission with a dual dry clutch and automatic shift capability (and paddles for manual shifting).

I guess like anything else I’ll have to get accustomed to it. I know these systems shift for more seamlessly than  I can with an old fashion manual with stick and clutch, but it just ain’t the same.
