M20L PFM3200 Still Flying...

Who knew! Anyone know how many are still left running with the Porsche engine?

Very few survived the conversion debacle of the Florida hurricane...

There may be a couple of remaining Porsche powered Long Bodies on MS...

Many have been converted to fly with other engines... at least one around here has the water cooled IO540, making it the liquid Rocket...

Old fuzzy memories... possibly inaccurate at best...

The sound of a Rocket with an MT is really awesome from the outside perspective...

A mate of mine here in Australia owns two of these beautiful machines.  Haven't been for a ride in one of his yet due to the tyranny of distance.  

Rode in one about 30 years ago and I remember it as being smooth and reasonably quite.

@carusoam I was reading the NTSB  report of the Bravo that crashed in Montana a while back and saw it was a liquid rocket which got me very interested in learning more.  Apparently it’s a TSIOL-550?  Can you (or anyone else) tell me why it never got traction?

It was too heavy, and too expensive, which are two attributes that CB Mooney owners care about the most. Without a gross weight increase, it cut into an already marginal useful load, and the cost of the engine was unacceptable, and that was before Continental figured out the true cost of the engine. Today's price would be even more ridiculous.

As far as performance goes... it had even more HP...

But, the M20L was limited by MGToW... by its under developed legs...

So extra engine weight wasn’t going to be very helpful...

 

New legs came with the M20M...

Don’t know if anyone tried to put M legs on an L...
