Today's flight in the year 2020

Flying over the Kitchener/Waterloo Ontario airport this afternoon; sad to see 13 B737's parked indefinitely due to COVID-19. If you know where to look, the Doc's shop is visible in the picture.

There were a bunch of T-6s and Vultees that were modified for the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! that are still out flying around with various museums and groups.   I'd wager that's one of them.

Meanwhile, Sedona was its usual photogenic self today.

You were just a couple of days behind me... KFCH to KICT on 2/26... first real X/C in my M20E

How's that squeeky clean new tire look?  I think I will get out Friday or Saturday and scuff it up a bit with a landing or three.

And check out the gear doors - they snapped right back.  No damage since it was not a moving flat but a standing flat.

Are those doors particular to rockets?   My inner doors are aluminum and wouldn't flex like that.   This might be a neat upgrade?

I don’t know.  Normal 231 doors?  It is nice they had memory and just flexed back on their own!

Ok - social distancing with my son.  Its a ghost town out there - no one on the roads really.  Not much.  No one to see at the airport.  But in the air, I heard a bit more traffic at other local airports perhaps than usual. But it is a rural county so even on a Saturday there isn't a lot.  It was a fun way to do something with my son - and run the ol' engine to keep her happy.

We would get arrested if we event tried to go more than 1.5 miles from the house.  God old ANPR!!!

I know...and who knows what time will permit for us.  Meanwhile it is still allowed - so off we go.  As I said, there's nothing going on in the streets - a car here and there but... and no one at the airport - I lie - there was a R44 doing some kind of hover practice.  There were signs the medical lift company was working but I didn't actually see the people - their hangar is across from mine - they have a Pilatus setup like an ambulance.  And I heard people on the radio at the various airports within 50 miles, including in French in Quebec, as usual.

I was able to make a trip to Orlando and New Smyrna Beach yesterday (to buy some $2.87 fuel).  I also did a low pass of the shuttle landing runway at Canaveral!  It was worth it to be able to start a radio call with “NASA tower”

This isn’t quite flying but I’ve been out of a plane for a while. Finished the shipping create to send my three blader to Cody Stallings . It was quite easy to build after referencing the Hartzell crate instructions and cost less than a c-note.

Some pictures of the Rockies from our Pilots N Paws trip from BJC to DRO and back.  The first picture is of Pike’s Peak.  The rest are of the Sangre de Cristo Range.  Some of the 14ers in this range include Crestone Needle, Crestone Peak and Humboldt Peak further south south is Sand Dunes National Park.

Is that a bone yard, or are those furloughed aircraft?

It's a bone yard, but also storage.   There are a lot more airplanes there than usual, so I expect many are just in storage.   A lot of 747s and other airliners come here to die, though.

We did a "social distancing" tourist flight today.  I have always wanted to see what it looks like at the very tip of the Mississippi River delta, a place called the "Head of Passes".  Here's what that looked like.   BTW- bought fuel for $3.40 at REG.  That's cool.  Lil' Sister is ETOPS (Engine Turns or Passengers Swim).  View looking approximately east.   The line to the south is scud in a marine boundary layer.

Today was a beautiful early-Spring day in Chicagoland.  Wife and I went for a flight from the west suburbs, down the Eisenhower expressway to the lakefront.  It was really strange to see empty public spaces on such a day. I'm certain those cooped up were wishing they weren't.

1) Our neighborhood with Chicago in the background

2) millennium park and Lake Shore Drive, which should be teeming with people

3) Millenium Park  and the loop.

4) United Center and approaching from the west.

5) Wrigley Field and wrigleyville.  should have been hosting the diamondbacks today.

Wrigley field not only empty, but no bar hoppers in Wrigleyville.  couldn't get the shot, which was disappointing.

Spectacular!  Thank you for sharing your adventure.  What a great way to preserve an airport, make it an airpark...............no complaining neighbors, except for the ones off the right side and probably the school on short final.  Sure enjoyed the great views!!! :)

Quick little flight Friday evening after work to fill up on some less expensive fuel, 35 gallons at $3.99 is better than at $4.99.

Flying - Coupon Style

No, Riverside. Corona is usually cheaper than Riverside but not on Friday. It also happened that it was Riverside Jetport that was the cheapest on the field, usually it is Raincross that is the cheapest.
