RedBird Skyport Closes

Recommended Posts

I was unaware until a recent article from AOPA mentioned that the Redbird Skyport at San Marcos, Texas closed its doors in September.  The simulator side of the business will continue apparently but the FBO closed its doors.  It was a really nice FBO with good service and friendly people.

The owner wrote quite an article about FBO's in general and I thought I would share it with those that did not see it.

One thing that I didn’t see mentioned was that many FBOs including my home airport are run by their respective host city. Our FBO employees are city employees and frankly do not have to make a “profit.”  The FBO situation is a tricky one for sure.

All the simulators at KHYI are gone.  The building is closed and will reopen as part of Berry AviationCorp.  Berry FBO will remain at the west end of the airport.  Blackhound Aviation Flight School is still using the building as a place of operations.  Sad

I landed at Green Bay on Friday and taxied to one of a couple FBO’s there called Executive Air. They parked me right up front at the main doors and put out the red carpet. Line guys refuelled it instantly. Service was akin to Signature’s at Rochester MN. No fee at Executive either. Had the fresh cookies and plenty of complementary snacks. They said when there is a Packer’s game they charge $50/plane load and have full catering. I was quite impressed.
