Looking for Mooney Instruction in Utah

I am brand new to the forum, so I apologize if this isn't the right place to be posting this. I was recently put in contact through mutual friends with a guy who purchased an older Mooney M20C. His insurance is requiring 25 hours of instruction, and I'd like to help him out if I could. I'm a CFI/CFII/MEI with about 600 hours of dual given with all of my time being in Cessna trainers, Piper arrow's, and Diamond DA40/42s. I would like to get some time in a Mooney before I'd feel comfortable providing flight instruction in one, and his insurance is requiring that I have 5 hours of Mooney time anyways. I've been considering getting my high performance endorsement for a while so I figured this might be a good opportunity to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I'm located in Northern Utah, but would be willing to travel within about 100 miles if necessary. Is there anyone out there willing to take me up and show me the ropes, or know of anyone that has access to an older Mooney that might be able to help me out? I would be willing to pay a fair wage for instruction and operating expenses. I also welcome any feedback as to what you guys might think about our plan. Thanks!

Welcome aboard, other Aggie pilot...

Mooney Transition Training is the way to go...

Sounds kind of expensive for you to get the level of experience to pass on to one other pilot...

What does the pilot want to get to know in his 25hours of dual?

I assume he wants to know all the finer details of owning and flying a Mooney... not just get the basics and move on...  the finer details can be life saving over time...

Best regards,

Your best option is to be added to the new owners policy and fly his Mooney for the 5 hours.  You are more likely to find an instructor who can fly a Mooney with you than finding one to rent.  I believe there is an instructor in Brigham City that is qualified in Mooney's and one from Pocatello as well.  You will not get a high performance endorsement for the Mooney, only complex.

Good for you to know your limitations. Like your prospective student, dont be surprised if the carrier will require  up  to 10 hrs dual for you to be added as insured. You have passed one of their big hurdles of having a complex. As you know, each airplane type has its' own characteristics that must be addressed in training, and you need to know what they are before instructing in them. General airmanship can and is taught in primary instruction and should be well mastered prior to transition training.  Seek out a specialist yourself, then pass on your wisdom and what you learned from him.

Might be a little late for this, but we'll be doing a MAPA PPP in Ogden UT on Oct 4-6, which is an intensive 3 days of all things Mooney that includes extensive ground school and 2 flight training flights. Typically the flight training is geared towards completing the requirements for a Flight Review on the first flight. The second flight can be continued VMC work or an instrument rated pilot can work towards  completing IPC requirements allowing a proficient instrument pilot to get both a Flight Review and IPC over the weekend.  But this would offer some of the finest Mooney specific training, both ground and in the air in just a few weeks. I don't know if it is still possible to sign up though given its only a couple weeks away. But you can check it out at https://www.mooneysafety.com/ppp-registration/

If both you and your instructor attended, you'd get 4 of those 5 hours and your friend would get a great start to build on.

I'm a Salt Lake based pilot, and if you find an option for an instructor and plane in Utah, I'd love to know about it.  I currently have a Cessna Cardinal, but want something faster and more capable so I intend to buy a Mooney in the future.  It would be great to get some experience up front so that when I buy my own Mooney I already have the insurance requirements met.
