Politics

  1. 1. Do you want to hear about politics on Mooneyspace?

    • Rename the forum politispace and have an off topic section to talk about Mooneys
      2
    • The highlight of my day is to get to talk about politics to other people who happen to own airplanes similar to mine
      1
    • Keep politics to a single section/post for those who need it but leave it out elsewhere

    • Talking about Mooney’s is my getaway, the last thing I need is to listen to politics here

Beechtalk has a section thats called "Babble Talk". I somewhat like the Idea of that. You can talk about anything you want. I don't want to read about politics,  but sometimes threads come up here about things that aren't related to Mooneys. I Personally am never gonna read something that has politics involved in it, however some people might want to.

I moderate on a site focused on arboriculture.  There are around 90,000 registered users on the site and the majority of the moderation effort is policing the political and religious section as well as all of the bleed over into other sections.  IMHO Mooneyspace is just fine not having a forum section where politics are discussed.

I wish we had a section for anything else, except politics.

for instance I just converted my pool to salt water,,,I would like to know the pros and cons of it from the brain cells on this site. Mooney people tend to be smarter about things...

having said that Mooney people tend to be smarter I suspect there are some on here that think Queen Pelosi is the best and open borders and sanctuary cities and states and smoking pot are the way to go..I may respect their opinions on aviation matters but I am not so sure I want to know that they are wanting a socialist society......and I don't want to know who they are

I am currently in downtown Oakland wondering how the heck people can be so stupid.....my flight out of here cannot come soon enough.......

keep it politics free.......

I just found this on google,,,,

"This makes Oakland the most crime-ridden city in California, according to the FBI. It's also the second-most dangerous city in the country behind Detroit. Memphis and St. Louis follow at No. 3 and 4 respectively."

I am in Oakland now and heading to DTW tonight and I just did a MEM and STL overnight...who says being an airline pilot is not dangerous?

Inviting political discussions in a separate section costs additional resources. Pay to play...

It is challenging enough dealing with things that bring us together...

teamwork is important for our future.

Polarizing topics such as politics and others, works against the objectives of MS... kind of anti-teamwork at times...

Politics are important.

There are better places for those discussion.

The big Election Day is is over two years away.... the actual voting process takes five minutes...

How much time do I want to devote preparing for those five minutes?

How do I want to look back, when the other guy wins the election...?

I am pretty happy that people have more important things in their lives other than Mooney flying...

I might even be swayed to vote for somebody... if they flew a Mooney...

Mooney flying is often a tool to do those other things....

It is a bit goofy that people are challenged with certain topics. But that is how humans are, or can be...

Lesson from mom.... avoid public discussion of certain topics... she listed three... politics was one of them.

She didn’t say why we should avoid these topics...

From experience, it is visible what happens when divisive topics arise...

They don’t always start as divisive. Often, something gets lost... control is one of those things.

One of the side effects... Good people leave, and don’t check back in for a really long time...

We don’t need rules, we can’t afford to pay somebody to police them...

In an ordinary day... We are going to write things that are on the edge of politics or the other topics... that may cause a stir.

Most often, it is good policy to just ignore it and let it go... get on to the next topic...

If offended enough, there is a report post button.  Somebody does get to moderate that.

If you really want interesting heated discussions... discuss who should pay for college, around my house...  :)

Best regards,

-a-

Lots of places for politics. Only o e really good place for Mooneys.

If you want to have fun, talk Genefal Aviation on a political website.  :D   But keep your politics away from this here Aviation website. Look what our single political thread did well before the recent contentious, hate-filled elections (more Little Timmy, anyone? )

See can’t even keep politics off the thread that’s saying keep politics out.  This thread now sucks for that reason.

Mostly I don’t want to know what other’s political views are.  It’s just more fun if we just talk about airplanes and not the craziness.

I think I am in a very different camp. Because I am not in living in US so I don't have the issue of needing to refrain myself from talking just about anything for the sake of saving myself from awkward social encounters. Lol. So MS, to me, is a place where I come and ask for advices - advices that may well be life and death. The trouble with MS is that we don't advertise our CV so one way for me to find out how much weight I need to place on someone's advice is to look at his or her political inclination - especially on the subjects of gun control, climate change, evolution, and vaccination, which are scientific matters that are, unfortunately,  made political.

Would you bet your life on advices given by someone who does not believe in science?

It depends on the science they believe in. Fake science based on manipulated data to generate an outcome in line with those providing the research funding?  Not really.

Surprised at that.   Was there in January.  Between the airports and the hotels just outside of airport proper you seem to rarely see anyone.   Walked to dinner.    In downtown it was not half as bad as downtown SFO.   SFO has become a shithole.

Airplanes bind us together.  We have many many disparate and dramatically opposite political beliefs.  That's fine and expected in a big nation like this one.  In the current environment, politics is so contentious, and discussions tend to explode, then the same people whom I want to hear and share your Mooney expertise become enflamed and the community fractures.  I don't want to hear just left, or right, or whatever leaning member's expertise on Mooneys.  I want to learn from each and everyone of you.

PLUS the activity of talking politics on the internet fractures us.  Same folks I bet we can talk politics in person, but on the internet, no way.  There are so many politics forums to entertain those inclined.  Let's not include that here please.
