Cockpit organizers / coffee holders

Recommended Posts

I mounted one of these using velcro to the right side of the center console... the one that divides the pilot and co-pilot foot wells... I can get a picture next time I'm at the hangar. But I basically put it down at floor level. The co-pilot has to be careful if its in use, but when not in use it's folded up. And it's super easy to use when solo.

@gsxrpilot Ah these are are nice pen holders! Thank you for an idea. Are these happen to be similar to https://www.amazon.com/Penpal-Rubber-Pencil-Holders-Inches/dp/B0131M54EA/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sticky+pen+holder&qid=1560962793&s=gateway&sr=8-3 ?

Very nice panel, too!

Yep, those are the ones. A couple of years ago, I reached out to the manufacturer because I only wanted Black. The minimum order was 25. I sold them all off to various members here on MooneySpace. Unfortunately I don't have the details, but I remember they went quickly.

I use these, from wally world to hold pens:

Like this on the right side; mine is on the pillar between windshield and window:

There's two in the Mooney, one on each side; one on the dash of my truck; at home, one on my band saw and one on my wood lathe. Easy to find, inexpensive and very, very functional.

I've cupholders in mine, but coffee is verboten in my aircraft.  The coffee stains on the headliner are evidence enough of what a good idea that is.  I'll try and post up photos.  I didn't do the mod.

@gsxrpilot

Paul, doesn't the O2D2 get hot sitting above the heat inlet like that? My 231 could toast marshmallows when the heater was on.  I'm still trying to find a semi-permanent place for the unit, which is much more difficult with the ceiling-mounted O2 ports.

Sorry, can't help with a coffee holder--in the plane, that's just my bladder. Cold drinks, in recloseable plastic bottles, stand up between the seats [oh, the joy of electric gear!]. But here's a nice organizer for when the right seat is empty, otherwise it lives in the back seat with the shoulder strap over the seatback.

Sorry, the picture's a little old, the giant Sporty's radio is no more . . . .

Yes it does, or would, but I very rarely have the heater on. And when I do have it on, it's just barely cracked open. The O2D2 is only mounted there using velcro so it's easy to move. I'd like a better place for it as well, but that's the best place I've found for it.

I am thinking of getting this one: https://www.amazon.com/KMMOTORS-Ultra-Pocket-Organizer-Pockets/dp/B01C33ANJ4/ref=mp_s_a_1_85?keywords=organizer+for+car&qid=1560868717&s=gateway&sprefix=organizer+for+car&sr=8-85

I have an electric gear and hope it will go in between seats or I can velcro it to the side of a center panel if I feel that trim wheel has a restricted access. Will post pictures once it is in place

It seems the manufacturer must have liked your idea and put it to good use.

I have this between the seats; there's a pocket for a beverage up front (and "outside" the main pocket, a pouch for a flashlight), a "big" pocket for notepads, whatever, and then on one side mesh pockets for an iPhone (perfect size), pen loops, etc.: http://flying-geek.blogspot.com/2018/04/pirep-between-seats-storage-for-mooney.html

I also have an X-Naut cooling mount for my iPad RAM mounted to the yoke, and to the side of that I have a stylus holder (I use the ForeFlight scratch pad for ATIS, CRAFT, etc): http://flying-geek.blogspot.com/2018/06/stylus-holder.html (so far, I've gone through one; they seem to last about a year before they stretch out to the point of not holding pens good).

For coffee, it's always in a Contigo mug. They do. not. leak.

I also lug around, in a side pocket of my flight bag, a Camelbak Eddy, which is also basically spill-proof (if you bite down on the straw at 12,000' after filling it up at sea level, you're gonna have a bit of a surprise...).

I have that Camelbak Eddy bottle, it surprizes everyone also in a hot day in a car or when I drive in mountains at 5000 feet. I can’t even imagine what will happen at 12k. When I am around people I usually slightly unscrew it first to release the pressure ;)

update: mine is Contigo but the idea is the same (sorry, image came up rotated from my phone)
