Mooney paint correction and ceramic coating!

Very cool.  I am considering having this done to my plane.  My paint is original factory (20 years old) but as the plane has been hangared since new, it's in fairly good shape.  I wonder how this would work on older paint...Anyone try it on an older paint job?

He has a lot of videos on his youtube channel that document bringing older paint back to life. I actually read about his work doing paint restoration on Tom Haine's Bonanza A36 in AOPA Magazine. I recently washed my aircraft with a decent soap by Chemical Guys and then before it dried I hit it with Meguiar’s new Hybrid Ceramic Wax. You spray very tiny amount of it onto the surface and wipe/buff it dry with a microfiber to setup a base. After that just wash it regularly and spray off the soap. Then coat the surface conservatively with the Hybrid Wax and use a high-pressure spray to blow the chemical across the surface. Wash the chemical completely off. Then microfiber dry.

I just did the Mother-I-L’s car yesterday and it looks phenomenal:

In my hangar at KMYF.  The Ceramic Pro installer brought his tools and materials and worked out of my hangar for 3 days.

Mehrdad from Aviana Detailing does travel to customer locations to do paint correction and ceramic coatings.

He's got a great YouTube channel showing his work, including one correcting and coating an Ovation.

Did anyone get an estimate? How much do they charge for a Mooney?

Been considering using him, but haven't got an estimate yet. Believe price varies considerably on what you want and the condition of your paint. He is based in IA, and has said that folks are welcome to bring the plane to him. IA is beautiful... in the summer.

If it’s C&c bright solutions or Nigel Edwards, he has had so many complaints about either showing up or the quality of the job. He uses cheap CMX ceramic Spray. Great for a DIY But not for a professional job. If he shows up after you pay.

Budget $3-4 AMU's and you 'll be close.

I had a local shop do mine 18 months ago. The factory paint on many of the 08+ aircraft is, for a PG13 forum, basically poop.  Mine cost a little bit more than $4 AMU, but a lot of that was touching up the peeling, lifting, garbage factory paint job.  I'd do it again and consider it money well spent.

Thanks. It's one of those puzzling things...~$4 AMU vs. ~$12 AMU for a full paint job...

I started having small paint peeling and bubbles around some of the rivets even if the overall aircraft looks pretty good. Do they fix those?

I did this to my plane recently- I went to Harbor Freight with a coupon and got their $80 random orbital for $50, then another $50 for buffing and polishing compounds, pads, etc. Took two days, but I did the entire plane.

Special care to minimize time around the cabin as to not have the AC motor around the steel cage, but the results speak for themselves. My plane was painted in 1990 and I rate it 6/10 but it took the haze off and restored the shine. I even did the windows, a light pass with polishing compound removed years of scratches and they look brand new.

Nice @Raptor05121  I also just did most of my new to me C.   Paint is in good shape but had a lot of surface oxidation.  I used Meguire's M110 with a variable speed polisher and M205 with a Harbor Freight DA, then wax.  It is amazing what a difference it makes.  It also took me about 12+ hours spread out over several days and I still have a bit left to do.

You'd be hard-pressed to get a high quality full strip and paint for anywhere near $12,000.

Yeah I think that's where it starts now, however I think a couple of people on here have paid more than $20,000 for a super high quality, more complicated design.

I was quoted $24-26 AMU for a Mooney Bravo about a year and a half ago by a well known high quality paint shop...It dissuaded me from purchasing the aircraft I was considering in favor for another that had recently been painted by the same shop!  I then sunk about the same amount into dealing with the deferred mechanical maintenance on the airplane.

I had a Lance panted 2 years ago for ~16k and it came out well.  I got quotes from a bunch of shops and they ranged from 15k-20k.  I feel like a Lance is bigger than a Mooney Bravo...

It looks great. Did you touch up the paint?
