kortopates
Garmin is releasing new GTN and FS510 updates. Primarily, the update adds support for new ADS-B weather products as well as XM Nexrad (support for toggling between composite reflectivity and base reflectivity nexrad). They also added FS510 support to work with the new smaller GPS 175 and GNX 375. Other details in their documentation, see the attached brochure for more detailed info. flyboy0681
With the new FIS-B features is there a reason to hang on to the XM weather subscription other than having it available while on the ground?
kortopates
With the new FIS-B features is there a reason to hang on to the XM weather subscription other than having it available while on the ground? The reasons for keeping it primarily is for long x-countries, greater than 200 no. Remember with Ads-b you only get text weather, metars and TAFs within the immediate couple hundred miles and the high resolution NEXRAD is limited to that same region. The national composite nexrad isn’t a high resolution product. But with XM you get all the textual weather and larger than full CONUS high resolution NEXRAD, which now is selectable between base and composite reflectivity. There are a few others pluses but main advantages come down to how far away your destination is and the benefit of always being able to see your departure weather ahead of you before you depart and watch your destination wx and everything in between. Although at my home base I pick up at least 1 if not 2 ground stations while still on the ground.)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
