Folks with the SWTA 201 style cowl, or even 201 owners...

This is not an uncommon problem.  I have seen tubes sleeved with what appears to be MIL6000 rubber tube. It offers chafe protection and offers an oil tight seal over any chafed areas.  My number 2 drain had a deep enough chafe in it to warrant replacement. One of the fasteners on the lower rods that tie the baffle together failed.  Certainly not unique to your cowl design.

There is a Mooney SB on the subject of the number 2 drain line chafing from years ago.

Thanks, Clarence!  I have searched google as well as the Mooney and Lyc website tech pubs with no luck.  If you come across the number in your travels would you mind posting it.  It would be nice if Mooney and Lyc made the tech publications searchable by key word.

Mooney S/I M20-77 listed from r the J model, but applicable to others as well in my experience.

Jeez-Lou-eez! I am going flying tomorrow morning and first thing I plan to do is take a look (I have the SWTA mod).

Thanks guys!!!

I don't think it's only SWAT cowl mod that has this issue.

it happened to my '67F with stock cowl (apart form Lasar closure). I had to replace #2 drain line and tie the SCAT away from tube.

The "Real Rub" I found on my A model was on this fuel line .. where it comes from the fuel valve and turns into and up inside the wheel well to the gascolator - typical for all 180 hp models.  I discovered it when overhauling my nose gear.   You cannot see it unless you remove the tube - as it's turned away from view and  gets rubbed during gear operation.  I armed the replacement with section of nylon tubing.  Joe
