1967 M20F Fuel Tank Reseal

Recommended Posts

I was scarred to death to reseal my fuel tanks because last time I did it on my old M20C corrosion was found in both tanks requiring a new wing for repair.  My M20F is 4 years newer so I took the chance.  Enclosed is a picture of some real shotty repairs over the last decades.  No corrosion found.  Guess the caked on sealant protected my tanks.  I also enclosed one picture after cleaning out the old sealant.  I will provide more pictures after Carl Sharon the Tankman out of Eagle lake finished up sealing it next week.  If you need it done close to Texas Carl is your man.

What did you use to remove the sealant? I just finished doing my right tank. I bought the airplane as a project and the previous owner had removed the sealant out of it. Now i want to do my left tank because there a very small leak coming into the cabin and when i inspected the tank i found a bunch of repairs.

Great before and after pics, WB!

holy cow, that fuel pick-up screen was a mess...

how did the tank drain ever work?

Be aware of the small holes that allow for air to pass through the ribs up high... and water to pass down low... take good pics of them as well.  Unknowing tank sealers have covered over these important transport holes...

Thanks for sharing the details...

Best regards,

KELA  Don't remember the hangar number but it right across from the hangar with the public restroom.  Call to get pricing and reserve a spot.  Tell him Walt Burger recommended you to him.

Are they not going to apply the cs3600 top coat red sealant?

Yes Carl uses the cherry red coat as per the Mooney specs.  The picture I posted was taken before the top coat was applied.  I will post more pictures later.
