Fine wire plug rehab

Recommended Posts

I recently threw 16 older Champion fine wire plugs out, half of them had high internal resistance, the other half had visible cracks in the electrodes.

I removed the screws and resistors from all f the plug in an effort to save the none cracked ones.  I gave up and bought 16 new Tempest fine wires and couldn’t be happier with the operation.

If you find a drawing that shows the resistor pellet in the champion design...

It may be possible to exchange the resistor pellet...

In the mean time...

  • Order up the new plugs from the other guys...
  • Disassemble the old plugs to see if exchanging the resistor is even possible...

Report back what you find out...

PP thoughts only.

Best regards,

A couple of years ago champion stopped making them with resistor stacks and started using fired-in resistors and they’re sealed. . Doesn’t mean that they’re any better it just means they can’t be messed with
