Guest Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 Did anyone stop in at the Continental booth at Sun n Fun to see the new Prime engine? A Continental copy of the Lycoming 4&6 cylinder engines. Piper had a stripped down Cherokee trainer appealing to the flight school market using one. Clarence Quote
carusoam Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 And you can get it mounted in a fancy new Brand P too.... w/ electronic ignition... IO370... https://www.flyingmag.com/piper-introduces-pilot-100-100i-trainers.... with a G3X. Best regards, -a- Quote
1964-M20E Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 No I didn't expect to see a replacement for my Lycoming from Continental. All I see on the Continental Prime site is a 180HP fixed pitch version. What is the cost on these engines? Would be nice if they offered more information without having to give them your first born. Now second born yeah that would work. https://www.continentalmotors.aero/Prime/Prime_Certified_Engines/ https://www.continentalmotors.aero/uploadedFiles/Content/Prime_Engine/Continental-specsheet-Prime-370-Engine-Series-Sale-Sheet-WEB.pdf https://www.continentalmotors.aero/Prime/Continental_Prime_Certified_370_Engines.aspx Quote
aviatoreb Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 I assume it will be like the IO390 series where then an STC for each airframe would need to be created, so very few owners would actually be able to consider this as an option. I wonder how much that option costs though. E Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 Let us know if anyone gets pricing on these. Quote
aviatoreb Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 ...I do not understand what would be the advantage anyway. I am assuming it is just as expensive as buying a new Lycoming. E Quote

E I would hope Continental would be more aggressive on their pricing seeing as how they appear to be directly attacking Lycoming's market. I would like to see what they say is the reason to switch to Continental, but to just offer another choice with no apparent differentiation would not seem to me to be a great go-to-market strategy. But what do I know, I'm a computer geek. Quote

I don't see this creating competition and pushing prices down. Edited April 11, 2019 by peevee 1 Quote
RLCarter Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 Isn’t Continental & Lycoming owned by the same parent company? Quote

No Lycoming is an Avco company, which is owned by Textron. https://www.lycoming.com/history Continental is a subsidiary of AVIC International (a Chinese company) http://www.continentalmotors.aero/company/history.aspx 1 Quote
