I got quoted 55 for all of that plus a GNX375.

I think for the time being, Ill keep the Stec 30, so no GFC500, and add a gtn750 or 650, and an audio panel.
I'm just trying to figure out if its worthwhile to go with the 750 since one, there will already be
a gnx375, and two, the G3x can control a lot that the gtn's can so is that spare space really needed.

Without a doubt I would install the 750 and a new AP. The 3100 or gfc along with the 750 will be the important parts of the upgrade. The rest is just fluff.

The beauty of the g3x is that you can interface with the gdl50r which gives you full adsb in. This allows you to use a $1600 330es or blinker on the wing.

I think the 375 would be great if you were keeping both 155’s and not getting a gtn. With the 750 I would never go for the 175/375. Instead I’d pick up a 650/635/430w/420w/430/420 or heck even a 400...  8k list is just under the 10k the upgraded stec will cost you.

Looks nice!

I was thinking about doing almost exactly the same.  I’ve got the same avionics as you and stec 30.

Curious, why keep the cdi for the SL30?  Could hook both sl30 and gps into the g3x.  Now since they are both digital. In an emergency, the sl30 has built in cdi functionality too.

Thanks! See discussion earlier in this thread; can't connect 2 nav sources to the G3x when using a non garmin autopilot. They may be working on a change to the stc to allow this, but I wasn't going to hold my breath.

Ahh, yes.  Thought they changed that when they made the G5 able to use two nav sources recently.

I was still thinking about leaving out the cdi for the SL30 since I so rarely use it and it has the internal one, but I’d also understand why you kept it.  Nice backup to an awesome panel!

Right now the Gad29B only outputs heading and hearing error information to legacy autopilots.  The Gad/G3X/G5 can’t command mode switching for a 3rd party autopilot, thus the limitations about two nav sources for these autopilots.  If you display nav2 information, your autopilot could still be tracking nav1. If you have a nav source select switch like on my autopilot; you could be presenting nav 1 and flying nav2 or vice verse.

The solution is having autopilot interface directly with the Gad box for all modes not just heading error (GPSS).  Given that Garmin is listening (folks asked for dual G5, autopilot interface, OAT probe, GFC STCd etc and they’ve delivered), I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered a EA-100 style autopilot adapter to bring more folks into their ecosystem.  I would suspect this would not be until the gee wiz factor of the GFC fades away.

Pretty awesome panel BTW

That's not going to happen.

Update - Mooney is all put back together and flying. This set up has been amazing and very easy to use. Finding something new it does every time I fly!

Did the aircraft have go experimental?  I notice a GFC 500 GMC 507 over there on the right, but it's not certified yet for the C Model.  ???
