GoPro Flicker reduction

I have a GoPro Hero 5 and an older EI UBG-16 engine analyzer.  I’ve tried various settings and can’t seem to reduce the flicker of the analyzer to a reasonable level.  Beyond the flicker, it seems difficult to get good resolution on other instruments. Has anybody found a good combination of settings to get rid of the flicker?  How about better panel images?  Any recommended lense adapters?

A couple of things to try... none of which are guaranteed to work.

  • Get a neutral density filter. Search on Amazon, they're cheap. This forces the camera to change the frame rate. You just need the frame rate to be different than the display. It's also very effective at taking the prop lines out of the video when shooting through the prop.
  • Try ProTune settings on the GoPro. It will allow you to manually change settings such as focal point, white balance, f stop, etc.

Thanks Paul!   Have not tried either of those ideas, so I will try both and see what happens.

ProTune settings made a big difference!  It took some trial and error, but I can now read the engine analyzer reasonably well.  Will try the filter to see if it cleans it up even more.  Thanks for the tip!
