ragedracer1977
Heres the last page of my W&B. Items 607-612 are listed, with weights. Except lines 607-612 are blank. My plane had a Mooney ARC-512b autopilot. It's not listed. Anywhere. What are the chances these blank lines are autopilot components?? N201MKTurbo
I feel your pain. When I did my avionics install, I couldn’t get the WB to work. I had to weigh the plane and I lost 100 lbs. Sucks.

The install manual had a form to fill, removed 3.91amps, added .6 amps, total -3.31amps. install manual says if the new load is less, no further ELA required. Thoughts? Thoughts? You should be good. Just note that on the 337. My load actually increased and the plane didn’t have an ELA. I had to do the whole thing and found the plane was over capacity.

Since compass roses seem to be a relic of the past...

ragedracer1977
Oh and I gained 19lbs useful! That old autopilot was heavy! Just the servo and control boxes weighed 13lbs.
David Lloyd
A lot of the old weight and balance was done before cheap calculators. Go through every change, every computation and find all the errors. In my 1971 Bo there were ten or so. 2+2=5, 3x6=19, add rather than subtract, etc.

For instance, let’s say the sun visors were removed (.6lbs) but the w/b wasn’t changed. In theory, the plane wouldn’t be airworthy without them installed, since they’re listed on the original equipment list. Similar idea with items such as carb temp gauge. Any uncompensated compass will give accurate readings, the military compass makes it very easy to accurately align the plane. Better than a compass rose. You can use mine if you can get over here to pick it up. https://www.amazon.com/Cammenga-Official-Miltary-Tritium-Lensatic/dp/B07KTB2ZLG Edited January 17, 2019 by N201MKTurbo

Lake Havasu City airport has one, which provides Yet Another Excuse to fly there.https://www.google.com/maps/@34.5736362,-114.3617337,150m/data=!3m1!1e3

Lost here. It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with airplane value and such. If I had a ferry permit to fly with extra gas, I wouldn’t think twice about flying it 500 lbs over gross if I had a long enough runway. EricJ
I knew there were more compass roses around here. There's one at Flagstaff, too. There are more but I can't recall exactly where...https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1396582,-111.6764354,88m/data=!3m1!1e3 Edit: Looks like Glendale is the closest.https://www.google.com/maps/@33.5314922,-112.2940075,89m/data=!3m1!1e3 Edited January 19, 2019 by EricJ
DonMuncy
Are you aware that the 99s paint compass roses at airports as one of their projects.

Fortunately I got it done with a sight compass. It says calibration complete, and on the ground reads pretty much perfect it seems.

cliffy
We had a new one painted on the north ramp at KPGA, Page,AZ (by the 99s out of Sedona). Any airport can ask them to do one All they ask are funds for costs. They usually need 3 days (2 nites hotels and meals for their crew plus paint costs). Ever try asking what a commercial company wants to paint one? Try upwards of $1500! You will need to consult the FAA publications for good location on the field. Even consider what pipes run under the ramp. They ask that the city engineer to shoot a N/S line (MAGNETIC) at the location. They do everything else. We also have a VOR check point on the airport. Does your airport have one? :-) Does anyone ever read what the FAA considers as to when a new compass check is needed? Makes for interesting reading. We won't get into the leaky diaphragm conversation (it goes on for pages here).
