Self bleeding flaps... are they for real?

I’ve been looking through my 1965 M20C POH and service manual and have found no reference to any way to bleed flaps without use of pressure pot, no reference to any “self bleeding.” Can anyone point me in right direction? I’ve read most threads on subject, seen a variety of methods ranging from traditional to what appeared to be simple yet genius. Thanks!

This may help you get started...

From a really old memory... of my old M20C...

Mechanic and I changed some old hydraulic return hose for the flaps... allowed lots of air into the flap system (before the hose got removed)

Lots of pumping from in the cabin, combined with mechanical exercise of the flaps from outside, flow of hydraulic fluid was restored over a few cycles of the flaps....

Self bleeding, or I may have just got lucky...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic.

Best regards,
