Espeed Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe this is the same mooney M20E that had been flooded some time back. Well, looks like it is back on Ebay. Check it out and chime in. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ULTIMATE-MOOONEY-HAS-ALL-/270761911215?pt=Motors_Aircraft&hash=item3f0aaae3af Quote
kurtsnyder Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Well, it makes me think it could have been flooded by the fact that he said all upgrades were done at Colemil. They were (notice I used "were") at Cornelia Fort Airpark in Nashville until it flooded in May of last year. Dozens of aircraft were flooded and they are out of business now along with the whole airport being closed. I sure hope somebody doesn't get ripped off! Quote
Espeed Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 I found the old thread on this plane. Looks like this guy is still trying to get over on somebody. Quote
FlyDave Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 If you google N9218M, the first link is the "avclaims.com" salvage page with the above pictures. Buyer Beware!! Quote
DaV8or Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 "found the old thread on this plane. Looks like this guy is still trying to get over on somebody." Not necessarily. The eBay ad doesn't mention flood damage and disassembly, but as long as he discloses that during further conversations and before the pre-buy, I think it's OK. If he tries to conceal it's past, then he's a crook. If the plane works and flies OK and you get it cheap enough, it does have a lot of nice mods. Assume the engine, prop and avionics will need repair or replacement in the future and make an offer accordingly. After that, do a complete corrosion inspection and pre-buy on the airframe by a MSC and you might have a good starting point for a nice plane. I personally wouldn't do it, but if it's cheap enough... Of course the fact that it's listed on eBay probably means that the seller is no doubt hoping for a total rube to buy it without asking questions or getting a pre-buy. The good news is, a Mooney that would have otherwise been parted out and scratched off the registry, will now continue on. Unfortunately, probably at the cost of someone's personal fortune. I can't image buying a vehicle of any type on eBay. Quote

richardheitzman Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 I sent him an email asking for info on the aircraft. Via ebay. If he does not disclose then I am turning him in to Ebay for fraud. Quote

fantom Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 If the seller is Jerry Presley, he's been around for a long time on the Mooney list, usually selling used airplane parts. I think he was in the dismantling business. Now it appears he's in the less than forthright assembly business. Very disappointing, indeed! Quote
jetdriven Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 The "sell a completely submerged aircraft" and lie about it business? What a shame. All to make a buck. Its only someone's life. But hey, we are talking about money here! Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 The only maintenance required to be logged is to show compliance with regulatory requirements... I stopped in there a couple of years ago on my way back from the east coast to check out his parts. He was trying to sell his personal E at the time, but unfortunately it was at another airport. He described how it was "created" and it just made me cringe. They replaced the tubular structure after a quasi-accident. It had every speed mod and lots of nice equipment, but I wondered about the integrity of the airframe... Quote
N601RX Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Seems like more people are still bidding on this plane. They must just see a cheap plane that looks like a very good deal. They must not be reading his feedback on other planes he has sold. Seems to have some very unhappy previous customers. http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller&userid=aap3670&iid=270761911215&de=off&items=200 Quote

John Pleisse Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 It's gonna go...what will be interesting is what it ends up going for. It's almost like you want to save someone from disaster. Report the sale to Aviation Consumer. It's stories like this that create great reading...this would make a great article. Somebody call Paul B.? Quote

Parker_Woodruff Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 so I don't understand...Is the plane chopped up into pieces or not? Quote
N601RX Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 The plane was completely submerged in a flood about a year ago. The insurance company had it dismanteled and hauled to a salvage faculity. It was then auctioned off and the buyer reassembled it and has tried to sell it on e-bay a couple of times without mentioning the fact that the plane was under water for several days. There is more info on the old thread. Quote
PTK Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Come on you guys! Cut the man a break! We all know the airplane has damage history! At the right price though it may make a nice plane for someone! I wouldn't buy it because I don't need another airplane! Some of you may not buy it! But someone may very well buy it and probably should. If they are willing to live with it's history and it is airworthy! It's well equipped . If it can indeed be cleaned up and airworthy what's wrong with it! Quote

We all know the airplane has damage history! I didn't know about it until this thread! Not every eBayer is on MooneySpace. At the right price though it may make a nice plane for someone! Getting the right price means full disclosure! I wouldn't buy it because I don't need another airplane! Would you buy it if you needed a plane? Some of you may not buy it! ¡I sure as heck won't! But someone may very well buy it and probably should. I would rather buy a plane I knew didn't have a history than one I didn't know had a history. If they are willing to live with it's history and it is airworthy! It's well equipped . If it can indeed be cleaned up and airworthy what's wrong with it! Nothing as long as there is full disclosure!
