Joe Afonso
Does anyone know what the rpm should be for the geared rotating beacon? The reduction is 12 to 1, so thinking a 500 rpm motor will give me about 40 rpm. A 125 rpm motor will yield about 10 rpm, is that too slow? Any info is much appreciated. Joe Afonso
Thanks and I’m sure your right, gonna go with the 10 rpm and see how it works, yes will eventually get the strobe replacement unless this thing ends up working ok. Thanks for the comment!
Nokomis449
+1 on the strobe. My Mooney came with both strobe AND rotating beacon and when the beacon stopped rotating, the mechanic suggested removing it rather than repairing it, so I did. Increased useful load by 5 lbs and picked up 10 knots. ;)
Joe Afonso
Anyone what the service life of these old rotating beacons are? I would predict at least 500 hrs.
carusoam
The service life is near infinity... The useful life is near zero... A useless device that lasts forever... clean and grease annually, or each time it stops rotating... Ok, it is probably better than nothing... it may work at night... my C got its beacon replaced by a Whelen strobe... somewhere near 6000 hours in it... My rotating beacon is a shelf decoration... A nice piece of art... for sale $100... has some newer bulbs in it... Interested? A decent LED anti collision light would be good... http://www.whelen.com/aviation/product.php?head_id=11&prod_id=205 Best regards, -a-

That will get my C up to 165 kts and more leg room in the back seats!

For the asking price, i’ll Include shipping... if you really need this device. Best regards, -a-
