Sometimes I just wish I wasn’t on the other side of the world. :(

But....., you fly a Mooney!  Just gas it up and,.....   Do you have an autopilot?....  Your Mooney has been in Texas before you know.:)

Seriously though, wish you could be here.

So was I, 9 years ago at a MAPA Homecoming and I just loved Texas. Nice people, places and landscape wise, it is not too different from here. I could even live there.

If work didn’t get in the way I would’ve been there for the Summit and probably stayed for this if time permitted me to do so.

AmSafe - SOARS - State of the Art Airbag Restraint System

Airbag seat belt technology just opened wide for retrofit installation on older Mooneys. The FAA granted AmSafe’s State of the Art Restraint System (SOARS) supplemental type certificate approval July 12 with an approved model list of 541 models. SOARS is available in two- and three-point harnesses for Part 23 aircraft (excluding Part 23.562 aircraft).

AmSafe will be at the MooneyMAX Mooney Educational Conference and Workshops, October 10-14, 2018

AND Reasonably priced for everyone!

See if Jan can share more of the Amsafe details regarding Mooney installations...

Best regards,

-a-

Amsafe estimates installs will be 4-6 hours. The price $2580 includes both front seat belts with shoulder belts. The sensor has a self test mode and does not need the amsafe test tool for install. The wires are one length only limiting where the sensor can be installed to under the left or right seat. I would suggest installing with nutplates in the floor for easy removal in the future.  I asked the rep to join mooneyspace and introduce himself and he said he would. He did say they have a Facebook page and can also answer questions there.

@aviatoreb Erik, your ship has arrived...

Is this what your were looking for?  :)

Best regards,

-a-

It is!  I have been waiting for YEARS for this.

In fact I already ordered this AMSAFE gear as of 1 month ago and I sent a "do you have a tracking number" email on Friday since I was hoping to see it already by now....

So hopefully to be installed this month!

Those of us that have had a few body parts rearranged because of not having airbag belts realize the value of getting them, Right @DanM20C ? Look at it this way, an ambulance ride will be billed at about 2900 alone.

...on this topic of the cost of ambulance rides.

Being in a rural area where there is a region hospital but not as well equipped as a real big city medical center, there is a need for a medical lift service that transfers severe cases to the city, whether they are a surgery gone bad in the local hospital or a several critical case of some accident locally.  And so forth.  I am not fully up to speed with what goes into making that call as to when an airlift is needed.  But I know the airlift folks since they are also at my airport, KPTD, and they operate a pilatus configured as an air ambulance and they fly with 2 pilots and 2 air nurses and they staff 24-7 at the airport ready to go in minutes.  So they need those personal in multiples to keep the staffing at that level as they are like fireman on shift living at the airport for a couple of days on shift.  Right across from my airport.  That is one airplane I never want a ride on.  Knock on wood,  In any case there is a lot in the local press lately about how that airplane ride costs $50k and it is bankrupting people.  Not making a political statement but just saying that this is a difficult situation when life saving transportation is leaving families bankrupt.  Seems like they are flying on average about 100-150 missions a year.

$2900 for a seatbelt system is small fry compared to the costs of medical anything.

$2900 is a small insurance premium.  It would have saved me $25k in dental bills, not to mention all the hastle.  I drive 1hr each way to the Mayo Clinic, I can’t tell you the number of trips I have made. Lots more to come too.  And I had minor injuries.  There are probably lots of folks who aren’t with us today that would be if they had amsafes.

cheers,

Dan
