I have the tray and WAAS antenna installed. Need a unit to slide in to fill the empty slot. Considered going to IFD 540, but right now need to stick w the lower price.

A used 530W will be around $8000 and it is is 20 year old technology. You should be able to get a used or refurbished Avidyne IFD540 for around $12000 or less . .  although it's $4000 more it is well worth the difference. Touch screen, great resolution compared to low resolution, synthetic vision, built in wi-fi, bluetooth, the IFD100 app, super easy logical entering of flight plans, exports and imports flight plans from apps, etc, etc, etc.

Where are you finding refurbished avidynes?  Something I would be interested in myself, but I've never seen one.

Avidyne dealers can buy refurbished IFD 540's from Avidyne. They are called IFD540R. They are the units that are traded in on the IFD550 and go through the factory refurbish program and come with the install kit. For someone who already has the Garmin 530W you can then sell the tray and connector kit to recoup a little. The retail on these refurbished ones are $12950 and if your negotiating skills are good you can probably get it for less since they have about 15% to work with. You have to be careful but legitimate authorized sellers sometimes sell them on Barnstormers as well.

deleted his post on this topic offering to sell a GNS 530W and then he deleted his post trying to sell a GTN750 for $8000. This guy is a scammer. Do not send him any money.

I e-mailed him about the 530w on this thread.  He was asking $6k for the 530w he posted here about before he deleted his post and said he would only accept wire/bank transfers.  Beware.

But, but, but... I just sent the guy 80 cents for the GTN. Thought for sure he knows he is dealing with Cheap Bast&$ds.
