50 years ago Mooney’s apparently needed windshield wipers

I thought I would share this find with the group. About 15 years ago when I started rebuilding my F model, I was looking for parts.  I found a Mooney windshield wiper kit complete with STC and drawings, new in its box. I bought for novelty sake given its rarity. Some pictures are attached.

I love it!

well my airplane (as did many of ours) had ash trays which I think are even stranger in an airplane than windshield wipers.

and a sky phone

and a radar altimeter (inop)

and a loran

and ... gasp... and adf?!!!

The Mooneymite used a vacuum windshield wiper motor, but not for wipers...

It was gear-not-down warning system that was activated by low throttle (high intake vaccum).

As ingenious as it was...most Mites have gear up landing history.

Surprised it wasn’t a vacuum motor for that, on a Mooney... Most cars of the day were using vac motors...

Would go well with the vacuum step... operated from the vacuum pump, not the intake vacuum....

Standby for the discussion on RainX... :)

Best regards,
