Fuel Gages

Recommended Posts

I have a bad right fuel gage, it barely moves and shows empty with full tank. Left gage seems to be ok. Both fuel gages are part of the Garwin 6 gage cluster, anyone have any ideas where I can get replacement fuel gages? I've heard of a place in PA.,, Air parts of Lockhaven. Was gonna contact them tomorrow.  Any advice would be appreciated

It may be the sender, not the gauge. You need to check them with ohmmeter, range should be approximately 1-30 ohms depending on float position.

Welcome aboard, Joe.

It always helps to know what plane you are flying, and what year it was born...

How interested are you in determining the details yourself?

The low cost method is determining what is working and what’s isn’t.

The high cost method is a complete digital replacement.

the level sensors in the short body Mooneys are hidden behind the side wall in the cabin.  They can be removed and cleaned, and have the seal replaced if this hasn’t been done in a while....

The Long bodies and some others have four sensors...

If the sensor is working, and the wire is not broken or disconnected the gauge in the panel is your next best chance of finding the failure.

Make no assumptions, everything wears over a few decades...  even the gauge grounds need to be checked.

If you know the gauge isn’t working The people in Lockhaven are known to do a good job...

If you are going all digital, now may be the best time to connect digital sensors to a digital engine monitor....

Also Check the things for sale, often the Garwin gauges are in there as people pull them for  JPI upgrades.

A brief search can find this stuff here on MS.

Best rgeards,

If you expose the fuel quantity transmitters which are behind the upholstery panels, remove the wires from them.  Then using jumper wires crisscross the wires and transmitters, this will tell you if it’s a gauge or transmitter.
