Markku
Repairing oil leaks from o-rings at bases of cylinder #1 and 2. When I pulled the #2 cylinder and the piston, I noticed a vertical scratch on the piston that my finger nail catches on. Scratch is about 2 to 21/2" long. My AI is out of town so I would like some opinions. Picture included.
N201MKTurbo
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Looks like a very low time piston. Edited March 13, 2018 by N201MKTurbo
KSMooniac
I wouldn't sweat it either. How do the cylinder bores and cam lobes look?Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk
ArtVandelay
I’m no expert but there looks like some pitting on the sides, possibly from corrosion?

Jerry 5TJ
My C model had a new engine in 1994 courtesy of Chevron (Petaluma).  It’s still going fine today.

Time on engine is just over 600 hours. 25 hours a year isn’t much time. Definitely take a close look at all the tappets and lobes since the jugs are already off. But being from the mid-90s you may have dodged a bullet and missed out on the Lycoming spalling epidemic.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Markku
tappets and cam lobes all look. I did notice some very mild spotting in the lower portion of the cylinders(mild surface corrosion)that I can not feel with my fingers. Thinking of deglazing these 2 cylinders and adding new rings. Cylinders are nitride hardened.
