Having an extra 10+% hp is great.

Similarly... I measured the performance differences on my plane when I went from 280 to 310hp Using a portable WAAS GPS and an iPad app called CloudAhoy.  There may be several other suppliers of this stuff now...

Really helpful to know how well things are working using a good low cost measuring tool...

I see the beginning of one problem... that multiplies rapidly...

Somebody already let the first color screen in.

Expect that a whole bunch of other color screens might arrive year after year.  :)

Ask Marauder, it happened recently to his long standing, nice Analog F....

Tell us those pictures where at your delivery airport or in route.  There is no way you are seeing clear skies in the Seattle area in the winter!!

I was stationed at Fort Lewis back in the 70's (god, was it really that long go?)..  My Rocket was maintained by Galvin and was based on Boeing Field when I purchased it in 2001.  I know full well the likelihood of that kind of weather in the winter out there.   :>)

N201XG flew in the first Mooney Caravan in 1998.  During the flight to OSH (not returning -- it didn't get there that year) it suffered failure of the vacuum pump and, I believe, 2 cylinders.  Henry Hochberg (Doc Hoch, from the Seattle area) was the pilot.  He could tell you more.  It was later owned by Jim Murphy in New Hampshire, who flew it in the Caravan, so it finally completed it's journey.

I was Mooney Tail when the engine problem occurred in 1998 and relayed info to MSN approach about the return.  They rolled the equipment, and we had video of Henry getting an escort from the runway to the ramp by the fire crew.

Jim Murphy flew in the Caravan in 2002, my first Caravan. I was surprised to see our old Mooney there.  It was in very rough shape compared to when I last flew it in 1994, delivering it to the buyer at Paine Field (KPAE) in Everett, WA.  I’m happy to see that someone has made her better than new and glad to see her back in the Pacific Northwest.

Yes, N201XG was in my care for oh... 16 years ... 1999 until 2015.   We had a great deal of fun, and nearly 1800 hours of it.

I had the new Paint and Interior done about 2010; and we were poised to be in the Caravan in ... 2011 I think ... when due to weather and flooding, we cancelled the Caravan at the meeting in Madison.

It actually brought a tear to my eye to see the old girl; you have no idea how much I enjoyed this aircraft.  I'm pleased to see her in the hands of someone else excited to see her.

I''m glad to see the updated Radios, that's a nice touch.  I bough the plane with the standard IO-360-A3B6D that was installed following the burned pistons departing on the first Caravan.   I had pistons topped at about 600 hours, and it was getting towards the 1800-1900 hour range when I sold it.   Life had changed and I wasn't flying it 200 hours a year anymore and she deserved to be in the air.

So cool to see it back at KPAE where I purchased it from Andy.   Flew it home via Portland, Phoenix, Baton Rouge, Homstead FL to Nashua NH.   Nice trip, learned a lot about each other, and in the end fell in love.

Hello all,

I realize this is an old thread, but my comment seems appropriate here.

Back on September 9, 1978, I got my Mooney checkout In N201XG. It was the first 201 I ever flew. I rented it from Performance Aircraft in Hayward, CA (KHWD). They were a Mooney dealer. It was a brand new airplane at that time. Back in the day it was also one of the aircraft used for traffic reporting by KGO radio in San Francisco. That was many lifetimes ago - before traffic cams were invented.

Early morning on Feb. 24, 1979, I went flying with a buddy that rented a Piper Archer and we got some air-to-air pictures. They are scanned from prints from 35mm film, so they are not very high resolution....

I now live on Whidbey Island, and haven't flown anything since 2000. I have only 550 total hrs., 40% of which are in Mooneys.

It's nice to see 1XG is in such great condition after so many years!

I flew some in this plane when @MooneyMurph owned it (Hi, Jim. Still here?)  The new paint and panel look great.

My distant recollection aligns with most power increase mods:  most evident benefit is in T/O and climb, especially when high/hot/heavy.

Adverseyaw, one of the things you can do if you so desire to juice some more power out of that beautiful bird is a tuned exhaust.  I did that on my E Model many years ago, and with no regrets whatsoever.  A fantastic mod.  You really see the difference at altitude, and I am based at a high altitude airfield.  The reason I did the tuned exhaust was because my exhaust system needed to be replaced; I kept repairing it.  Once I installed the tuned exhaust, I never had a single problem with it over a couple thousand hours and the engine ran much better.  Just a thought for you long term.

@aeroHAWK 100 that's such a neat story. Would love to meet up sometime if you're game. Will PM you.

@flyboy0681 I still don't have a lot of great data. One recent flight at 8,000 has me at 9.2GPH at 2350RPM, and I believe my TAS was around 145. One of my goals for 2020 is to record these numbers, and I've since bumped up my cruise RPM so should see an increase above those numbers.

Note that this is with the stock prop. The STC requires the factory propeller -- it isn't authorized with an aftermarket prop.

@exM20K the mod definitely helps, but I do find that keeping the CHTs in check on hot days is a real challenge. It's also placarded to 28.2"/28.5" of MP down low, which prevents use on the runway. The engine builders tell me that running it above those pressures at sea-level is the main cause for excess oil consumption.

@Mooney217RN the Powerflow is on my list! Probably sometime this year, and I heard from Buzz that it really helps with CHTs, which would be a big improvement. I talked with both the Firewall Forward and the Powerflow folks and both felt the STCs were compatible.
