Buying an Airplane

Recommended Posts

Today's flight from Vegas home. 9,500 ft. 10.0 GPH per side. Cool CHTs and descent speed.

Holy cow, that's a lot of data!

the P.O. must have been an engineer!

Check your #6 on the right...  seems to be running a tad hotter than the rest @ 344°F. :)

Best regards,

Today I flew to Casa Grande (KCGZ) for lunch and back. Since I was in no particular hurry, I pulled the power back to < 9 GPH per side and was still getting 165 KTAS at 6,500 ft. That's in a six seat, 1700+ lb useful load twin. Not bad. On the way home at 5,500 ft I pulled it back further, below 8 GPH per side and was getting around 150 KTAS. At < 8 GPH I was pretty far LOP (although didn't look precisely, the highest CHT was really low).

Within rounding error of what I'll sell my 231 for.

So is the twin market still in the tank?

Probably will be until we have turbo diesels.

We have! Diamond DA-42 and DA-62 :)  Aren't they running something like 7-9gph per side of Jet A?

KLRDMD - N7979K. What a great Baron. I had the pleasure of owning her from 1996 thru 2001. Building time in this fine machine throughout the US and Caribbean enabled me to advance my aviation career to a Corporate Pilot. I can see by the pictures posted the upgrades of avionics and interior over the past years. I hope you enjoy her as much as I did. I would love to have the opportunity to fly her again.

Regards,

R. Rico

Love my insight G4 in my 310! I liked the EDM900, but this has more monitoring features like vibration, egt variation and exhaust valve health monitoring.

Vibration analysis?

Interesting...

I spent so much time looking at Ken’s pic...  all I could think about was how many spark plugs there are and trying to find a dead one without a monitor would take a day and a half... while not being sure what you are actually looking for.  :)

Best regards,

Vibration analysis?

Interesting...

It senses three-axis vibration in multiples of crankshaft speed and displays it as spikes. Looks a bit like an oscilloscope. Cam vibration presents at .5 and mags at 1.5. alternator is about 3-4 depending on gearing.

Pretty cool.

Some mechanical engineers use that type of analysis for preventative maintenance on commercial machinery....

Engine monitors are getting even smarter...

Matt are you using Savvy for downloading and storing your data?

I am wondering if they have a way of looking at the vibration analysis over time as they do with other things....

I could ask Paul the same question...  @kortopates Question regarding vibration analysis, airplanes and Savvy....

Best regards,

I installed one of the original Insight GEMs way back in 1992. It was my first “upgrade”. Didn’t do much other than display temps for EGT and CHT but was light years ahead of the factory Alcor single position EGT and factory CHT gauges.

I would probably have gone with the Insight if they had something available when I installed the JPI 830.
