I have a 89B in my plane, it only does GPS approaches.  If I could get a 94 for like $500 I’d do it since the 94 has the VOR and ILS overlays and is a plug and play replacement.  More than $500 tho I might as well upgrade to a Garmin 650.

The 89b sells for $400 ish are you looking for a free upgrade?  For a $700 delta you could upgrade to a 94. A healthy savings from a $12k 650.

going to have to upgrade to the 650 or equivalent anyway to get a WAAS source for ADS-B compliance. So if I was going to spend more than $500 might as well put it into a more permanent solution.

Yes, you can use a 650 for ads-b, however, it's a really expensive way to get there.  It also makes your ads-b compliance rely on an extra, really expensive piece of equipment (you also have 2 points of failure).  All of the solutions that have been suggested to me have an internal waas source and can accept a gps source input from something like a 650.  This gives you a cheaper path to ads-b and makes your gps source redundant when (and if, in my case) you install the 650.

Hmm. So if I do a Garmin 345 with internal WAAS and a 650 then it will failover to the internal source automatically?

I can't say that, I'm really not up on the Garmin stuff, however, the ones I have been told about can accept position sources from internal as well as external.  At that point it should be just software.  'course that doesn't mean it would work automagically.

The Garmin website has some really interesting explanations for how their stuff works including how to add a WAAS source for ADSB out to their existing equipment that may not have a WAAS source.... a box and antenna for under an amu...

I was just reading to see if I could get a touch screen update to my all analog display O.

Best regards,

Each ADSB solution has its own WAAS unit specifically required to have a matching system for latency requirements. Not all WAAS motors can be used with just any ADSB solution. Each one is individually certified. One must pick and choose wisely.

If you are still looking for a KLN 94 GPS, I may have one coming available end of June. It works perfectly. Doing some avionics upgrades and was thinking about pulling that out as well. Not sure on a price but it would include everything. Database current as of this cycle.

How much are you wanting for it?
