Posting for a syndicate in Sydney

Looks like a hangar queen with original avionics. Not sure where and how the top over haul was done. Needs new transponder and a WASS source to be ADSB compliant by 2020.

Mission: syndicate. IFR.

Price : 180K USD

Diamond in the rough or a money pit?

Tom

ps. I always believe syndicating a Mooney is a bad idea to start with...

Check closer into the details...

a top OH is not always a good sign.  If flown LOP, the cylinders can go to TBO...

a top before the halfway point is expensive.

This top was done, one fourth of the way to TBO...

Annual just completed, over a year ago!

If you like your J, The O is one step newer/ nicer...

Doing a proper PPI in Australia seems to be a challenge. Buying 220amu hangar queen sounds pretty risky.

What is the syndicate intending to use it for?

Best regards,

From the Ad, it would appear that the Annual is due again.  The top overhaul makes sense based on the low hours versus calender time, as long as it’s flown enough since the top overhaul, corrosion should be less of a concern.

It sure looks like a nice plane in the pictures, but then picture lie.  A thorough PPI should tell the story.

It has been sitting- if the airframe is good it's a great project plane.  I would put it at $140-150K in the US market, but ferry cost is high- no clue what it would bring in Oz.  Unless 50+ of those 500 hrs on the airframe are within the last 12 months I would assume the engine will need an overhaul, the king instruments will need a refresh in addition to adding updated avionics.

Not buying this thing but asked by a friend who wants to start a syndicate and this is the Mooney they are eyeing on. All of them are pilots none is a mechanic.

Pretty much my points as well. Assuming the airframe is in great condition, the engine health will very much depend on the initial reason for the TOP and how much it has run afterwards (And how it's behaving). The avionics are dated and will need an upgrade  to be ADSB compliant.

If this engine holds up, 180k USD is a fair price?

Or add O2, fiki, and AC... because you can...:)

Without these desired options, UL will be over 1000#

If UL is the driving point of the decision, Go Eagle, get 1100# and less of the weighty options.

As far as price goes, there are a few around the 200 & 300 amu range...

So many updates to consider, but few are in Australia.

It would take about a week of flying and paying for a pilot to bring it home.

A known bird, near Home sounds better than two in the US...

Use the AAA website for comparative pricing.
