Nomex honeycomb carbon fiber sidewall panels

Got tired of my carpet being glued to cardboard, and decided to do something about it. 1/8" nomex honeycomb core bonded to carbon fiber to make sandwich panels. Cut this out and glue new carpet to that then you have something more fire resistant, stronger, lighter, and retains its shape better.  With the SCS interiors "featherwieght" carpet, im looking to drop the 12.5lbs the factory setup is, to something more like 8lbs.

Okay- obvious question- how is this legal?  Is this just a piece of the "interior" that is replaced?

Seems so. Its nonstructural decorative furnishing, and its replacing cardboard, which I cant see how was approved to begin with.

I wasnt kidding about the cardboard.

the sandwich panel cuts easily with a saber saw and a metal blade.  Cut the raw fabric with scissors.

the carpet on our right side gets bunched up, this would be an easy fix.

How did you template it?  Any chance you can trace your final shapes onto brown paper?

My interior guy replaced my cardboard with some kind of plastic material, forget the name, but I guess is fairly standard.

Nice.   I wonder if there is value in making the floor panels with carpet out of them.....  Thinking out loud.  Noise reduction?  Would it break down when you walked on it?
