Some Alodine and primer would be a good idea first.

These days it's Bonderite CIC-33 wash and then Bonderite 1201, then primer.   Can get all of it from aircraft spruce.   Names have changed, apparently.

Interesting, I got both the wash & prep locally at the auto paint store, was cheaper than spruce and no wait time.

Were the screws that you removed resealed before painting the wingwalk? How did you determine that the stripper didn't damage the seal on any other screws?

Yes, I need to do this too--maybe when it cools off this fall.

Hank, depending on what kind of shape your old one is in you can just roll the new stuff right on top of it, takes hardly any time at all and looks great. High gloss, good grip. I still have half a can of the UltraWingWalk I used that I can send to you. By the time I need it again it will be no good.

Yes those screws were leaking before I stripped the walk. I asked the person who started this thread if he ever had a problem with the stripper damaging his tanks using this stuff and he said no. So hopefully I will get the same result. I’ll know in 7/10 days and let you know.

My walk wasn’t in overly good shape, I had a few bare spots and 7 screws that were leaking. So it was a no brainer for me to strip. But if I was just freshening the walk up I agree with you I would just paint over it.

Hopefully when I paint the plane I will do a matched color walk.

I really like the way it looks when the wing walk matches, but the flip side is when I take people flying I always tell them "You can only step where it's black."
