PMcClure Posted July 11, 2017 Report Posted July 11, 2017 N1051K is approaching 15 years old and I am approaching 48. We are both showing some minor wear and tear. Looking for a good detail shop in the SE that can do touch up on paint, wing walk, interior deep clean, etc.. And my birthday is coming up next week so was hoping the family would pitch in and pay for it! Any suggestions on shops? Quote

There is a kid at EET that does great detailing work, but will not be equipped for the paint touch ups. I did the wing walk myself, but will be watching to see what you find out about touch ups as my aging lady has a few blemishes herself. 1 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted July 12, 2017 Report Posted July 12, 2017 The wing walk is not that hard. Getting the old stuff off is easiest with a heat gun and plastic scrapers. I used a couple of pieces of poster board and made a template with the old wing walk on. Then I ordered 6 feet of this: http://www.kofflersales.com/p/anti-slip-abrasive-tape.asp?cid=23 For about $40 plus a little time you can have brand new wing walk. If yours in in good shape, just faded, mask it off and hit it with flat black paint. It'll look new when you're done. Quote

Did mine a year ago and it looks good as new. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
DMJones Posted July 13, 2017 Report Posted July 13, 2017 I've used a young man in the ATL area, who travels from field to field in the NW region of the city. IIRC he charged around $300 for a nice clean and wax. I'll send you a PM with his contact info. Quote
TheTurtle Posted July 13, 2017 Report Posted July 13, 2017 you can buy wing walk paint at spruce for not much money. It has sand in it and is flat black. I think they actually have different colors as well. Mask it off and brush it on. First thing I did when I bought my plane. Gotta stir the crap out of it though because the sand settles quickly.
