Windmap

So far I've been pretty impressed with WindyTV.com.  I was flying from Auburn, WA (S50) to Sand Canyon, WA (1S9) for an Angel Flight and I took a look at Windytv.com.  It showed strong winds (30+ knots) below 10,000' coming across the Cascades from the east.  That meant it would most likely be bumpy.  If I could get up to 10,000' it looked like light winds and a smooth ride.  As I scrolled up and down in altitude, it appeared that Mt. Rainier was creating what I called a wind shadow.  Light winds in a pretty large area just to the west and northwest of the mountain.  It also looked like winds were light at the surface.  I decide to head south (instead of east) down to Puyallup (KPLU) then climb up in the 'shadow' to above 10,000' until heading east.  Sure enough, good ride the entire time.  On the way back we descended through the same shadow but since we needed to go to KBFI (Boeing Field) we had to head north.  Sure enough, even below 3000' it was continuous light and occasional moderate bumps.
