Is the brake system the same as our Mooneys? It's easier to image Neil's scenario of a build in pressure than the opposite. It wasn't really steep, just a long slow incline. I would imagine the brakes are a hydraulic line lock of some sort. The lamp post is still bent. I looked for the picture I took but can't find it. I suppose there's a possibility. But even if a cable seized or broke it should not be very difficult to open the valve to relieve hydraulic pressure.
