The windy rain lately has me thinking.  Everyone always talks about water getting into the small pilot side window, but what about the outside airvent that leads into the cargo area.  Does that leak onto the steel cage and lead to corrosion?  I'm wondering if I should cover those things when it rains?

If your plane sits outside and your canopy cover doesn't cover those vents I'd say yes.  Blue painters tape is good for weatherizing since it won't stick too much, leave any residue and is easy to remove.

If you go to the link below and scroll to the bottom you'll see some pictures that show where the vent enters the cockpit.  It located right between to downtubes on the birdcage.  Pretty remote chance of getting any significant water in there, but if it's wind driven rain it's possible.

Interesting, looks like it would drip right down onto the lower bar of the bird cage.  I'm going to spray some Corrosion X and cover with blue tape.  Thanks!
