I believe it was from the right side...I have not seen the damage. He's not a member of mooneyspace, so I thought I would check for him. The part number is: 220000-146. cctsurf Posted December 6, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 It's not a problem of getting one from the factory (they are fairly expensive), there are just a number of people here who have parts planes and I thought if one would give him a better deal than Mooney, it would be helpful. I'm guessing one of those with parts planes has a wing with corrosion on the spars... This would be a way to utilize that wing for the purpose of keeping one more mooney flying. BTW, his plane is a '67 m20c, but from the parts manual, the c, d, and e wings are all the same part number, and it seems that there was no change through time on them. KSMooniac Posted December 6, 2016 Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 A used wing skin would require a lot of labor to remove, and the rivet holes likely wouldn't match what your friends already has. Best to get a new skin with no holes, and back drill through the existing holes to get a proper match. He thought perhaps the wing could be cut just inside of the seam and he would do the removal work for the skin. You will need a form (pipe) that has the shape of the mooney edge, some duct tape and a shop vac. Essentially you place the pipe where the leading edge is and then wrap the aluminum around it 1/2 the way and thentape it up like a pouch so it is airtight. Connect up the shop vac and let it suck the air out. The aluminum will pulled down tight on the form and take its shape. The vac will only take a few seconds. I'm unsure if the mooney leading edge is a simple radius or more complex.
