bradp Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 Anyone have a recommendation for a pen holder that can be attached to the side of the glareshield or a similar location? Looking for something that will accommodate a stylus / pen combo. Tired of writing indecipherable clearances with my finger on an iPad. A brief scouring of Amazon didn't turn anything up... Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
DonMuncy Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 Did you try Aircraft Spruce "pen holder". I have one attached to my knee-board. I like it. Don't know how thick a stylus is. Quote
Hank Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 Visit the office supply aisle at Wally World and look for these. I have one on each side of the plane, the dash of my truck and on the band saw. Quote

Hank Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) Just a coupla bucks. Peel-and-stick, too. Edited November 30, 2016 by Hank Quote

201er Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I was thinking of using a stick on magnet on the glareshield but most of them are two weak and the ones that are strong enough are swinging the compass from feet away! But these plastic grabber things seem like an excellent idea! I use a combo pen/stylus. Mostly the stylus for domestic flights and the pen for international cause there is more paper involved. I used to clip it to my shoulder harness but got sick of having it fall off and get under the seats when I'd need to copy a clearance. Edited November 30, 2016 by 201er Quote
yvesg Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 I got one free at Oshkosh from a sponsor of the Mooney Caravan. It is quite small and orange in color. It works fine and got it for free. Anyone from the Caravan got a picture? If not I will take one this week-end and post here. Yves Quote
kris_adams Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 This is all I use. I clip it to the handheld microphone holder that is empty (I keep the actual microphone in a seat back). Been using this for years and years. Not flashy but works great for a single pen/stylus. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/penpal.php Quote
cnoe Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 I use the PenPal like Paul linked to above (also available at WallyWorld). It's very tacky (soft polymer) and I've yet to lose a pen from it, and it's "peel and stick" as well. Here's what it looks like on my panel. 1 Quote

Let's see the STC or 337 for that!? Quote
cnoe Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 Please don't call the FSDO. If it helps it's attached with Mooney Glue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

I would have put mine there, but ordering from Amazon was a random color gamble and they sent me Lime Green. So I've got it attached down by the flaps switch in my K. It's less visible there. For $2 I might go to an actual store and see if I can get a black one. Quote
Piloto Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 I prefer my shirt/jacket/pants pockets for pens, and cell phones, always handy. José Quote
goncaloareia Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 I use 2 of these clipped at the edge of the metal bar that supports the OEM sunvisors. Works just great! https://www.amazon.com/MUJI-Japan-Stainless-Holder-Single/dp/B00IJEY0AU 1 Quote

You can order the color of your choice (black) directly from the distributor for only $1.15 each but there's a 25 piece minimum (or you can get 10,000 for $0.59 each). IIRC Walmart only stocked packs with green, red, and blue. https://store.penpalholder.com Put an order together and I'll take 5 black. P.S. I don't see an STC available though. KSMooniac Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 For my main pen, I wrapped a couple rings of Velcro around it, and put a mating piece on my knee board. Works great, easy to grab and stow. You could do the same on the panel, console, sidewall, etc.Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote

KSMooniac Posted November 30, 2016 Report Posted November 30, 2016 I still prefer pad and paper for recording times, clearances, wx, etc. so I still use my truly old lap desk/knee board. It used to hold a tablet too, but last year I gave in and moved to a yoke mount.Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
